While visiting my local drug pharmacy I found some Citgo Supergard, Exxon Superflo 10w-30, and Shell High Mileage. The Citgo oil is SL and 2.89 a quart. The Exxon Superflo is the same price and the Shell HM is 4.15 a quart. My question is, are any of these oils worth messing with at these prices?

I would get the Exxon Superflow if it is the same price of the Citgo. I have concerns about the Citgo 10W-30 SL rated oil being mostly a Group I based formula. Exxon SM rated is Group II for sure these days.

This is hard to believe, but there is a chance that the SL rated Supergard could be as new as a year old. I check my archives of data cheets and the Apr 08 sheet for Supergard has 10W-30 as SL rated; 5w-20 & 5W-30 were SM rated. You will have to look at the date code on a bottle to see how old it is.

The latest Supergard data sheet on the Citgo website, dated Jan 09, has 10W-30 SM rated.
