The reason why I ask is that the last oil change I switched to Mobil 1 and Napa gold filters and have a bit louder valve train noise. On the oil forum some members told me it can be contributed from the oil filter. Thanks, Sal
I would blame the Mobil 1 before I blammed the filter as Mobil 1( 5w30 anyway )has been known to increase engine noise in the 5.7L. As I said in your post on the oil forum I have never heard of the 5.7L being filter sensitive like some engines are. The Wix/Napa Gold filter is extremely popular with the HEMI crowd. If there was an issue with it causing engine noise I would think I would have heard of it by now.
I can honestly say you are the first person I have seen say they have heard of filters causing noise in the 5.7L UNLESS the filter itself had a failure like a bad ADBV. Certainly you can try a different filter but if you do that use the same oil so you know which it was. If you swap filters and then also swap oil brands you won't know which was behind the noise.
The MOPAR oil filter is decent quality. Nothing special but it is a decent filter good for 5-6K. Mobil 1 filters are very good filters and capable of extended OCI's. I would not call them the best out there however. A K&N is on par with the Mobil 1 flters. Actually, the new Royal Purple oil filters are actually better, I would say, than the Mobil 1 filters. If you are going to stay within the 6K max OCI allowed for your truck( as I seem to recall you are ) the MOPAR filter would do the job for you.
