Chrysler Horizon

My grandma had a gold Plymouth Horizon when I was a kid. What a turd, but perfect for her usage.

dad bought one for commuter duty back in 85. the base base base model.
no air, no power anything, 5 speed, Puegot 4cyl, didn't even come with a Radio. Dad had an AM unit installed.
cost him $5k ($13,582.53 in today's money)
my Brother moved to Dallas in it (In the Summer...luckily he worked 3rds that first year), then sold it to my cousin back up here, who sent it off to the scrap yard sometime around 96 b/c the Floor rusted out.

Was that the model they offered a GLH model?

Dodge Omni GLH by Shelby.

had 3 or 4 in the family.. they were good but like the k-cars quite disposable and rusted out quickly. brake lines, body, trunk, floor. etc.

Had an aries K and I was washing it and blew the brake line into 2 pieces with the spray wand at the car wash.. nursed it home 2 miles.
It also had holes in the trunk large enough to lose shoes through.. it was 1997.

My aunt had an '86-87-ish Plymouth Horizon, red on red. I'll never forget that car, everytime I rode with her she let me row the gears of the manual 4 speed from the passenger seat, which I thought was the coolest thing as a kid-- I got the hang of it pretty quick.

My parents owned K-cars (Aries/Reliant) all throughout my childhood/early teens. They were always reliable till around 100K, then all bets were off.

Learned to drive a stick on a '79 Plymouth Horizon with the 1.7. Mom had an '84 GLH and it was fast. Last was a late 80's Omni. They were good at the time and you could really stuff those hatchbacks.

I bought a new Chrysler Horizon in 1980 for £3143. Comfortable and with a wind up and let it go feel which was very much french in character. I only kept it a few years but I had no complaints and nothing went wrong.

At some point in the 2000's for an unknown reason I bought a 1990 Omni for $500. For 1990 they had updated the IP, added an airbag and put square rearview mirrors in. It was a 2.2 with the 5 speed and that little car moved! The floorboards and the one rocker panel were rotted out, but the rest of the car was solid. I pop_rivted in a few pieces of sheet metal and sprayed a can or two of undercoating over the "repairs" and it passed safety. Sold it a year or so later for $800. Had a 6 digit odo (also updated for 1990) and had 180k on it when I bought it, I put 8k on it without any issues.

My wife drove one of these when I meet her, than one morning when she was stopped at a red light the driver behind her fell asleep at the wheel and rear ended her, luckily she was basically ok just sore especially her back but the hardest part was a couple years before in High School she was involed in a fatal that was not her fault and it brought back all those memories needless to say it was very difficult to work through.

My wife had a Dodge Spirit with the 2.4 Turbo and a 5 speed.
That thing would haul and had the Infinity radio system in it too. Got great mileage and she was driving on the interstate to work and back. Easy car to repair too except for the starter.
