Today after sitting upside down since lase summer I grabed the PureOne filter (PL34631) that came off my camaro last summer and choped it.
The filter was used with mobil 1 MX4T 10w-40 weight oil. When I put this filter on it replaced another pureOne that had about 4,000 miles from the last oil and filter change. This filter went from 4,000 to about 8,000 miles.
I changed it after I saw that my oil pressure was getting low.
Ok the filter was totaly cloged. It sat up side down full of oil for about 4 months and the oil could not get through the media. That means the anti drain back valve works real good too.
When I choped the filter there was about a cup of oil still in side it. It had metal caps and was very well made.
These filters clog up kind of fast but they keep the oil so clean.
As far as I can tell there is no by pass or any thing is this how they work?
Any one know if there is a bigger version of this filter any where?
The one I use is about an inch longer then the one the filter books says to use.

I had used Regular Mobil 1 and a fram filters.
It sat in a field for 3 years. Then after I got it back on the road I switched to PureOnes about a year ago. This is the third PureOne.

Did you see any crud in the pleats??

Any filter will hold oil when tipped upside down, that don't
mean it's plugged,my filters with only 2-3000 miles do that too.

The anti-drainback valve created a vacuum; that's why the oil didn't drain out. When I remove a filter, I have to jam a sharp scratch-all into the inlet to puncture the anti-drainback valve so the oil will drain through the media and out the center tube.

Congratulations, your Pureone filter was not clogged and did it's job perfectly.

Yea chevy engines have in block bypasses. Even my old chevy diesel has one.
I just thought most oil filters had them.
I toss my PureOnes when they give me less then 20psi hot at idel. A fresh PureOne will give me just under 60psi hot at idel. Even with old oil.
The PureOne I choped was not covered with junk, it had some stuff on it but it was not covered.

The PureOne is just blocking some flow once it gets full of dirt.
All that droping 40psi between the filter and all the moving parts of the engine means is when the oil gets hot it is easy for it to flow past all kinds if gaps and stuff.
Then I get less oil pressure.
It still has all most 60psi on start up when cold.
