Choosing Extended Drain Filter

A 2024 Sierra cost some dollars. Seems like a long time to run oil, but it’s not my money that bought it. Everone does things differently. Some would buy a less expensive but quality oil and use a Delco filter every 5k.

I would sample the oil to make sure I’m good along the way. This oil change I went up to 0w-40 Amsoil Signature. It’s a very robust Dexos R compliant oil. On the thick side. My goal is just to have the oil at the very high end of 20 weight regardless of any OCI I choose and I think it will do well. As far as I know the L84 and L87 engines are not known to be fuel/ oil diluters.

How would one know if the filter is working or not working within an interval that would be considered normal unless they had a pressure monitoring system that measured system pressure constantly?

Best way to know would be to monitor the increase in filter dP at a baseline operating point (ie, same oil, temp and engine RPM).

Well I was able to beat RockAutos price on eBay. Found a case of 6 filters for $37.80 shipped after tax. About $2-3 cheaper than RA. Comes out to about $6.3 per filter. I’m a little skeptical about eBay parts but looks like a legit filter. Much cheaper than Amazon.

I have found some decent deals on Ebay for Premium Guard made private label filters. Most of the sellers were overstock or loose freight wholesalers. A lot of the time they will send offers discounting the listing price and then many will also have a offer tab that you can ask for more off that many times they will take.

I saw that today. Theirs couple sellers offering a case for even cheaper than my smoking deal ! $29 plus tax shipped for a 6 pack. Awsome deal. Will be real hard to switch back to Champ made leaky filters for double the price.

I trust PG XL made filters to go the distance. But PG now makes Mobil 1 extended performance oil filters rated to 20k miles if you want the rating on the box.

View down the center tube looks like a standard PGI extended filter, so I'd say it will look just like a Carquest Premium or MicroGard Select.

Filters arrived last night. This eBay seller used Amazon to ship them. Super fast. I’m relived to find original filters. Initial impressions are wow. Very nice grip paint and overall craftsmanship. I’m excited about the PG14615EX coming soon in 2025 on PGI’s website. For some reason their private label brands to have an XL version already available.
