My annual mileage might increase 25-30k a year in the very near future. I’m interested in the Premium Guard family of filters from various parts store brands. Do these filters have the capabilities of going past 10k miles listed by the MFG? If so I’d be looking at 12.5-15k/ 6 months intervals with Amsoil on my 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 5.3 L84. My usual go to brands are Amsoil, Fram FE or Wix but given the M+H QC issues and leaky champ filters it has me thinking about jumping ship towards PG showroom quality craftsmanship.

i have spun on some carquest premiums destined for 12k miles in industrial service. based on what i have seen over the MANY i’ve cut, i wouldnt hesitate to run them for longer intervals.

GM has a hard limit of 7500 miles while still under warranty :sneaky:

Fram Endurance is still the best choice for the extreme OCI you want to do.

Otherwise, Mahle might work for you. Since Mahle is mostly OE on Euro cars, and Euros are very big on the long OCI thing, they might be good

Well, in the oil filter world it doesn't seem as simple as M+H=junk. Matter of fact there were just some of the new Purolator 20k WalMart filters that were posted being built by the same factory as Premium Guard. Though stock will be hard to find until they roll them out.

I trust PG XL made filters to go the distance. But PG now makes Mobil 1 extended performance oil filters rated to 20k miles if you want the rating on the box.

From what we’ve seen so far it appears the new Purolator 20k filter is the old M1 filter made by M+H but painted gold. The new M1 filter is now made by PG. Pics above.

I see no way that one can come to the conclusion that a filter is working or not working at any interval past what would be normal, unless they had a pressure monitoring system that measured system pressure constantly.

That being said, i would not take any advice from anyone on a 30k oil filter as it is likely BS.

I would run 5w30, and change it every 5k. I have never had a Champion filter leak enough to make any difference

How would one know if the filter is working or not working within an interval that would be considered normal unless they had a pressure monitoring system that measured system pressure constantly?

I never said 30k mile intervals. 12.5-15k/ 6 month is the idea. I’m currently running Amsoil Signature 0w-40. Meets Dexos R spec.

ill bet the 0w40 could withstand the conditions of 12kand still stay above a thick 20wt

not sure if there was a way, other than said system.....faith i suppose.

Also no way to know if a leaking Champ filter would make a difference without long term wear tests. I don’t like pushing filters or oils to the limit personally. I guess there’s always some faith involved. Best you can do is use a filter that consistently shows less QC issues.

Actually my trucks schedule states to check oil life every 7.5k however the true interval is Oil life monitor or never exceed 1 year if oil life does not deplete first. I’m not worried about OEM warranty. I got enough bulk 0w-20 oil receipts to cover a claim. I’ll just reset oil life monitor regardless to satisfy the online trackers.
