Chinese tire quality

GTRadial is owned by Giti, which is based in Singapore. A few years ago they opened a tire manufacturing plant in South Carolina. That doesn't guarantee you will get a US made GTRadial tire when you buy, but at least they have a US plant.
I’ve seen Giti as OEM on VW now. At least on the Tiguan.

LingLong, Otani, Leao have been bringing in Thai tires recently due to tariffs on Chinese tires. The Thai have been making tires for a while - Toyo, Bridgestone, Michelin and Yokohama have plants there and Vee Rubber/Deestone are based there too. But I still don’t trust a cut-price tire.
LingLong tires have millions upon millions of miles on them installed on big rig (over the road) trailers.

I picked up my Mk8 Gti 2 months ago in the dead of winter; It came with summers and I needed a replacement asap. I went with Crosswind because it was impossible to find a 19 inch tire in a pinch. Honestly, I am impressed. The tire is quiet, great dry manner, can handle some light snow and rain. If they hold up anywhere near the rated miles ill probably get another set.

Thank you for clearing that up! Giti makes some pretty decent tires, and I believe they are an OE supplier to VW IIRC.

Chinese buy millions of vehicle every year domestically . pretty sure there are millions of Chinese made tires on them . Chinese have learned a lot about QC and market demands in the last 20 years . Chinese probably would not send sub par tires to the states when they can send them to Africa or other less developed nations where price really is king.

i have bought a few Chinese tires in the past. never had a problem with them. i got what i paid for

I have run ST (Chinese) trailer tires all over the country without a single issue. However-some on here and on other (RV) forums claim they burst in the storage yard. So yea- go figure....

I am a tire snob… and tires that came with a used Lexus ls400 bought a few years ago were Radar Dimax as tires and they wore great gave comfortable ride with solid handling… this gp lion heart tire that came on this used Prius I have now—previous owner said he had 70 thousand miles on them and they had plenty of wear left did well in dry and wet… in winter got great deal on Nokian etyre for 51 on Walmart l.com and got them since lionheart were more like lamb in snow… that being said…they wore great and road on highway fine… I think have to do more research for “China” or Thailand tires which think the radar tires were… but I think there are some quality tires out there…again…I never would have purchased either of the tires I
have mentioned in this post-but both came with used vehicles and both were excellent-radar and very good wear lionheart gp tires and while they were slippery in snow… I had driven them like 7000 miles or so added on to the 70 the previous owner had and they wore like iron and were stable in other conditions… I think most all season tires including Michelin which have always preferred would lose lots of snow traction with 75plus thousand miles on them… these still had tread wear about 5-6/32nd on all four. One last thought-our society in general had a litigious nature for both positive and negative…. if there was a Chinese made tire-which was having blowouts like the old Ford Explorer Firestone tires…. I am sure we all would have heard about it…. Faulty tires are something that would be reported because they are so essential… I just know with the Radar tires I had if they told me they were Michelin defenders or even the grand touring one-I would have said something to myself like that is why I love Michelin😊

I haven't used them, but I heard a lot of decent reviews from Milestar tires from the German car forums.
Yes-I have used them to. The "Chinese Tires are Junk sentiment" is being put to bed on here by users that have actually run them. Funny how that works.

I've driven nearly 150,000 miles in rain, snow, and ice (and probably billions of potholes) on Chinese Primewell tires and my only complaint is they're noisy. I've currently got Chinese Westlake tires on the front and they're even better than the Primewell. Just because China sometimes makes junk doesn't mean everything coming out of there is junk.

It "depends" on how much you pay and what you ordered. Honestly there's so much overlap in quality I no longer look at country of origin. The Singaporean made CSF all metal radiator costed me a head gasket, the Stant radiator cap cost me another one, the US made Ford Taurus was ok but we trade it in early due to the AX4S transmission reputation, the Japanese AC condenser pipe on my Integra burst for no reason, the Malaysian GE microwave control panel broke and they wanted to charge me $180 to replace it (design problem), the Chinese kitchen cabinets my parents bought and installed has paint peel off in 10 years, etc etc.

Those Douglas Walmart tires and Goodyear Invicta OEM tires (both S rated) are always trouble to my cars, despite being made in the US.

You get what you pay for and you need to read all over the internet to see whether people have problems with them after a few years, that's the only truth in life now.

Milestar is probably the better of the Chinese - the local Lexus dealer stocks them as the cheapskate option.

Radar I think is Indonesian. I’ve been seeing them a lot recently.
