My father in laws ssr over heated real bad. He had it running in garage and forgot about it. The car was smoking and lost most of its water. He tried to fire it up the next day and it just cranks over. He says it sounds normal when cranking. There is no water in the engine oil. I told him to disconnect the battery. then try to fire it up. Is there a fuel cut out switch or something that would disable it from starting from the overheating? Im trying to help him from far away over the phone. The car is a 2004 chevy ssr. help

why would running it in the garage overheat it?
if it overheated enough to puke out all the water
while idling
it has major problems.

Im assuming cooling fans did not come on. Alot of them have that problem. He was having overheating problems before this happened.

most likely..piston rings lost tension, causes too low compression to run.or blown headgasket on all 4.remove the radiator cap and crank it over look for puffs coming out the radiator hole

How did it stop? Did he run it out of gas? If it has gas, he might have done something bad to the gaskets or head.

either lost compression due to something failing/warping, or it seized from heat and expansion... freed up when cooled. either way, metal was likely changed somewhere inside.

you need to do a compression check at this point to determine if you still have enough pressure to start.

engines need compression, spark, and fuel to start. test for those 3 things.

sorry to hear about it. I know you two are smacking yourselves in the head. But it sounds like the engine already had problems.

Not me not my ride. He has to live with that mistake. Father in law knew it had a problem before this.
