Chevy Cruze Unveil

GM is really starting to hit it's stride with new products and quality I think. Ford might still be ahead of them overall, but I think they are starting to close the gap. I probably won't be in the market for a new car for another 3, 4 years at least. And by then, who knows? My first new car might very well be a Cruze. Or a focus. Heck, something even better might be out by then. Maybe Chrysler/fiat will surprise us all.

Europeans will get a 5 door hatchback in their versions. 2011 Opel and Vauxhal Astras. Not quite a boxy wagon but more utilitarian than a regular sedan.

The idea is to have the smaller engine running harder in normal driving for lower pumping losses and less friction so it's higher on the efficiency curve, then rely on the turbo for extra power.

The HHR SS ends production this year. The HHR LS and LT will continue production into next year. Possible replacement is the Orlando, built on the Cruzes platform.

Why do they chop the back off these cars... If you don't fold down the back seats you have no cargo space. Not very family friendly. It seems you have to get something with 3 row seating to ensure 2 row seating with cargo space.

About time. Plenty of technology exists to get at least 40mpg out of non-hybrid vehicles. I recall back in the early to mid eighties we had cars that easily got almost 40 on the hwy. (Civic, Tercel, etc.). You would think they could have improved on that by now.
