The Sunday evening car shows at a local shopping centre have started up again. I checked out last night's, my first in two or three years.

Lots of unusual stuff ...

'59 Chevy

'62 - '65 Acadian (a Canadian-built Chevy II/Nova, rebadged so the Canadian Pontiac dealers would have a compact car to sell)

Chevy truck, late '50s? I met the owner a few weeks ago, and he gave me a tour. You can see chromed hex bolts on either side of the plate. They can be removed with the tire iron, and the cover removed, revealing the spare, which is not subjected to the elements. It looks to me like the move to spare-tire hoists under the box has been a step backwards.

Peak Caddy? I figure early '60s.

1st-gen Civic! I was enamored with these when they came out.

Newer Brit Mini with RHD. From afar I thought it was a Datsun 1000. I think the original Mini was 850 cc. This one is 1275 cc - a rocketship!

Like the brown Caddy. Car shows around me are getting snobby, and I like to think I'm not in a snobby part of the world. But I like seeing achievable vehicles with original (or at least well worn) paint, and a variety of them to boot.

I'm not the least enamored with a row of Corvettes, and a row of Firebirds, etc. Seen one, seen 'em all. When a car rolls off the assembly line to be a collector, or at least a weekend toy that gets garage space and fanatical maintenance, it's not a surprise that it's still around decades later.

Bring something like that 1st gen Civic, you'll bug the snobs, because you'll draw a crowd of ordinary people who exclaim, OMG my mom had one of these when I was a kid...
