Chevron Techron vs Gumout Regane

Depends on which one's on sale. Regane is $3 a bottle at my Big Lots. I haven't checked around for Techron sales, but it goes to 2 for 1 frequently.

AZ, AAP, and Oreilly seem to have the 2 for 1 deal on Techron each during a different month. Usually end up buying 2 each month, which has lead to a rather beautiful stock of Chevron Techron. Near identical additives, use the one you get the best deal on!

disturban,

I much prefer Techron over Regane. I used Regane just a little over a year ago and after putting it in my truck one week later my engine went bad and caused damage to the innerds. Many people have told me it was just pure coincidence but I still can't help feeling it had something to do with with it.

Techron has time and time again never caused anything to go bad on my cars and it say it doesn't harm o2 sensors. I even over dosed my tank of gas and still nothing has gone bad at all.

Durango:

While you can never 100% rule out what you seem to believe might have happened it is almost 99.99% certainty that Regane had nothing to do with your engine failure.

Regane and Techron use the same basic ingredients. The only difference is that Chevron actually states that their product contains 55% PEA. In my view that is the best reason to use Techron over Regane. With Techron Total you are 100% sure that PEA the best gas detergent available is actually in the product.

I've used both....with good success.

But now I use RedLine Sl-1.....which also is an excellent product (suprised that nobody has mentioned it).

I use Redline as a maintainance dose.....in combination with MMO.... 1.5 oz. of Redline Sl-1 and 3 oz. of MMO.....per 10 gal. fill-up. It works great.

You still hanging on that "Regaine killed my engine" story? Doesn't it ever get old/tired?

It's time to let it go, Durango.

Q.

Quest,

I'll let it go once my pocket book recovers from such an engine rebuild. I admit since then it has been acting fine. I guess it may have been just coincidence but you have to admit it came at a most unusual time.

That's for sure...... We did some work on a car, Oil change and Trans service... we started getting some minor misfiring on it when we added Fuel system cleaner. Darn those performance cars that call for Premium only. Actually, turns out the fuel in the tank had been sitting in there for 8 months... so it's more than likely the old gas than the fuel system cleaner.

Ack.. should have test drove it BEFORE we went to work.
I've had some pour ins that I said... WOW this is working.. some I said Blah, nothing here. Fuel system additives seem to either WORK, or not... Oil additives (the few I used) are a little more volitile. One I said... OH [censored].. I have to get this OUT of the car. Most have actuallhy helped an old car feel younger.

I alternate. But lately been a big fan of Berryman's B-12 CHEMTOOL, 1 oz. per gallon of fuel, every third tank.

No problems

Techron system cleaner was the original product developed by Chevron and BMW. To date there has been no definitive data that suggests that anything is better. I'd stick with Techron System Cleaner for those reasons. Ed

ahoier,

Long ago Consumer Reports wrote an article/test of the various engine/intake cleaners during that time and considering it cheaper price the Berryman's B-12 did pretty good!!!! Among others like Techron did just as good but more expensive. Either way it's a good product.

Perhaps your real problem was caused by the multiple uses of Techron rather than the single usay of Regane?

Gumout regane contain much more polyetheramine than techron. msds.walmartstores.com/cache/601221.pdf

I used it over 3 years everytime before oil change and never have problem. It is better and cheaper.

May be that is because Regane is sold in smaller bottle than Techron? So even if they had the same identical amount of PEA (measured in grams) in both the bottles, Regane will have the double the percentage.
