Chevron at one time was the favorite conventional on here at $.49 a quart after MIR and a much more stout additive package. Now it is still a great value but not the gold standard of conventional pcmo's that it was at one time.
 
chevron sells the same oil as supreme and as havoline. it cleans well over normal oil change intervals, cushions very well with outstanding film strength, and has very good lubricity.
chevron/havoline is one of the few conventional oils where one company owns all phases of production, from drilling, to refining, to additive package development, to blending.
 
CS and hovline are not the same formula anymore.

CS is a great oil. Before all the new SN formulas came out, it was by far superior to popular dinos like Pennzoil Conventional and Quaker State Conventional. Today its still a top tier oil, but Pennzoil Conventional and Quaker State Conventional are much more potent than they used to be.

That being said CS is a great oil! It has a higher TBN than most dinos and even higher than some syns. And its add pack is potent as well.

I wish I could get a good deal on it, but the cheapest I can get it now is $3 a quart. At that price I would rather have Pennzoil conventional from Wal-Mart. ..

Your incorrect. Chevron merged the two lines in 2012, those VOAs were taken in late 2011. Compare the PDS on havoline and CS... They're identical.

Love that PQIA testing. I didn't realize CS has so much moly and boron in it. I'm even happier with it in my engine now.
 
Tried to pick some up at my Costco, but they only had the Shell oil, and then only 10w30. Too bad. I was hoping to check it out. Still sitting on 27 quarts of Havoline 5w20, so, not too disappointed.

The Chevron Supreme you linked was SM/GF-4 while the Havoline was SN/GF-5.
 
chevron and havoline are the same. the lines were merged when chevron's oronite additive company released their latest sn/gf-5 additive package. they both use this additive technology. the pqia testing is from almost 2 years ago, and predates the roll out of oronites newest additive tecnology, therefore outdated. the newest formulation has no boron, lots of calcium, and trinuclear moly.

Look again. It was SN. But they were testing to see if it met SM spec. It was one of the first SN oils they tested

I haven't seen anything on this yet. Maybe im behind. But we dont have any new voas of CS from what I have seen. The havoline test oil was purchased a year and 4 months ago and looks very lacking compared to all the CS I have seen. I really hope you guys are wrong here.

Whoops, you're right; sorry about that. It's there in blue and white right on the bottle!
