Comments: This oil was kept in engine for more than 10 months. 1/2 Quart make-up Delo added at 4000 miles because of oil loss from leaking rear main seal. Car is always idled for 3-5 minutes from cold morning start: this may account for fuel in the UOA.

Killer good UOA.

I thought this oil had more moly in it. Did they take it out? Is this an older version of Delo?

Doesn't look like the fuel in the oil hurt anything. Viscosity is fine...

Thanks, fueltankerman.

This is last year's version (old version) Delo, which has no moly. I now have "new" Delo in my engine. "New" Delo is said to have 200 ppm or more or Moly.

I have other UOA's in this website somewhere. Some with Castrol GTX. Wear always on the low side.

why the warmup?

From force of habit. I used to live and work in New York. And I used to use 20w-50. And this Delo from a cold start, even at ambient temperatures of 90+, is not exactly a free-flowing 0w-30 like oil.

Oil and air filters, Suzuki OEM. Oil filter seems to be Austrian-made to Suzuki specifications. Air filter is 100% Japanese-made.

Air filter has 25,000 miles on it.

Nice report.

I was a little concerned with the TBN being at "only" 5 but your long warm-ups and 10 month oil use duration explain that.

For such a long time duration, I think a HDEO is a great choice.

Oil still a solid 40 weight despite fuel dilution. It appears that Delo400 15W-40 is a mid-to-heavy 40 weight under most conditions.

Are you going to so another report showing the new "moly-enriched" Delo400?

As for mixing, if you want to thin this stuff out some, I'd use nothing other than 5W-30, 10W-30 or 10W-40 Chevron Supreme.

Or a 50/50 mix of Delo & 5w20 Havoline

Many have suggested that I use 'lighter' 30-weight. One of the better suggestions is the use of Castrol "GC" 0w-30. Actually, I have 2 cases of "GC" 0w-30 on standby, just in case I wind up in Alaska or Minnesota in January.

But I have been a fan of heavy weight motor oils from way way back, and I have never had cause to regret using heavy oil.

It all boils down to what you're used to, and what you like.

The SAE 10w-30 version of the Delo 400 - or some other HDEO - would be an ideal choice for this application and would give you better performance and fuel efficiency.

The GC, 0w-30 would also give you noticably better performance, particularly during the warmup phase.

I'd only change oil in this vehicle once a year if you continue this driving pattern of very low annual mileage.

Yo, Flimflam! Good report!

We have a couple of things in common: I'm your neighbor, for one. I live on the mainland, south of Dickinson.

Second, I have a Tracker (Kick). Just brought her home Friday after a long search for a clean one. (I'm a former Track/Kick owner, always regretted selling it...) It's a 1998 ragtop five-speed 4x4, in perfect shape. Paid a whopping $2400 for it! I catch a lot of flack for owning "one of those dinky things" too! I, like you, have other vehicles to chose from. But I love those Track/Kicks! For running around town there's nothing better...

Within an hour of bringing it home I changed the oil. I'm running Delvac 1300 15w40. I catch a lot of flack for running dino oils too...

Take care,

Jim

Hi, and thanks for the kind comments re: UOA and Sidekicks generally. Always pleasing to meet fellow Sidekick/Tracker fans.

Great price. But how many miles on it?

Watch out for the oil seals. My 1990 2-door, the rear axle oil seal blew out and lubed my rear brake. My present 1998-model 4-door, the rear main seal is leaking.

But apart from these minor glitches, they are 100% reliable.

If you have the opportunity, you might want to try Castrol HD-30; I've had good luck with it. Also Schaeffer Supreme 7000 series, if you can find it.

Good luck and happy motoring with your Sidekick/Tracker. ( P.S.:--- Do not believe all the ******** about these cars flipping over. They do not flip over. )

Thanks!!

It has 71k miles on it. This is my second Tracker. I used my '92 as a commuter (100 mile RT daily). Ran it to 215k miles, engine was tight as a drum when I sold it. (MISTAKE!)

Not worried about flipping, MY WIFE DRIVES A TROOPER! LOL!!

I may switch to a straight weight soon, I'm liking the idea more and more every day.

Take care!
