Been reading a lot of posts about Chevron and Havoline. Seems to be several different ideas as to who makes what oil, and owns what oil, who owns what gas, etc.

From what the Chevron rep for my area told me...Chevron owns Texaco and all its subs, including havoline and Chevron controls all the Texaco branded gas stations too. What do you all think?

Hi,
Zeus103363 - A Greek God?
My little grab on the Caltex-Chevron goes back to the mid 1960s. I worked closely with Caltex in New Zealand (NZ) at that time. I then travelled to Denmark to work for them in a Technical posiotion and was present when Caltex rebranded their Danish operation to Chevron

At that time the Caltex MD in Denmark was an Italian-American who had been based in Italy. He did not speak Danish but I had a great relationship with him in a very good and well managed organisation. Sadly I returned to NZ in 1970

Its all about cross ownership and market place positioning!!!

There is a large Chevron office building near here. It says Chevron/Texaco on the sign out front. They have been together for a while. Maybe 10 years. The Chevron and Texaco oil bottles are the same shape, but are made with different colored plastic: Blue or Silver vs Black. I buy Texaco Power Steering fluid at the Chevron gas station.

Also I did not notice the thumbs down? Why do you not like Chevron? Chevron has been a leader in the petroleum industry for decades and from personal experience can not be beat.

i like chevron but i only use it unless i pay cash, because everytime i use card to put gas, they over charge me 50 dollar or something, but after few day it only charge the amount i use. every other gas station never over charge my card only chrevon

I've heard of the same thing up here, particularly in BC. I regularly pay my gas here on debit or credit card, but never get such a thing. I'll have to watch closer and see what happens.

I do know that a lot of pay at the pump systems do preauthorize a certain amount, since they don't know how much gas you're going to buy at the time of authorization. Others are programmed differently.

Paying with visa/mc debit it sounds like. It's a hold they put on there to ensure that they actually get paid. Not specific to Chevron corporate, but to whomever owns the station in question.
