All previous samples were with a Motorcraft FL820S oil filter. The last three were with a Baldwin B329 oil filter(Thanks Dan4510). All previous samples were with a Motorcraft FA1744 air filter. Napa Silver 26253 air filter was installed when I put in the last batch of Mobil 1.
Driving was 70/30 City/Highway with about 800 miles towing either boats or a work trailer.

As always, Terry has helped me out a TON with this vehicle. If you are not currently using Terry for your analysis interpretations, I highly recommend you doing so. -Joe

Really good report! I'm insanely jealous with your low silicon reading. My wife has a 2002 Explorer with the same motor and the silicon readings are always in the teens or higher. I've checked and there are no leaks

. The only thing I can see is that the air filter box top is only held "tight" with 2 clips at one end. the other end has tabs that slip into 2 slots. And there are no clips on the sides. It doesn't seem the tightest compared to other vehicles. Did you use any oil/fuel supplements such as LC or Fuel Power?

Whimsey, I use Nuetra 131 in the gas, 6 ounces per tankful. I noticed a big drop in the Silicon numbers when I went with the Napa Silver air filter. I also have been blowing off the filter with compressed air every oil change. I agree with you on the box not seeming tight. What air filter are you using? The reason I ask is because mid-year 2002, Ford changed the air box and used a slightly different filter, that has thicker gasket material on it than the previous one. They look identical, but looking closer, they have a slightly different gasket. Let me know, Joe

It's the Motorcraft air filter. It's been changed every 15,000 miles. Her Explorer was built in Nov. 2001. I wonder if I can use the later air box and filter. Thanks for the info

When the truck is out warranty do you plan to run the miles up a bit farther ?

Of note , in the second Drive Clean Blend analysis look how but one quart of the new Drive Clean Plus bumped the zinc up along with the small additive differences in the two Chevron runs .

Are you by chance using Nuetra 131 in the gas tank ?

Good point Motorbike, on the DC Blend!! And yes, I am running the Nuetra 131 in the tank, I must have hit the "2" by accident. -Joe
