Wear looks very good. I wouldn't run it that long though. Sheared to a heavy 30 but shearing with a conventional 10w40 is to be expected, and it really didn't shear badly for the mileage.

I really don't think that the 10w40 is necessary though. I would try 10w30, and retest. If the numbers are the same, then stick with the 30 weight for economy and HP reasons.........but that is me.

Wear looks very good, but notice how the dino oil is completely spent with a TBN of .9 @ 7k miles.

Does your wife drive like Danica Patrick(or for you older folks, Cha-Cha Muldowney)? Or does drive in a more sensible manner?

Just in time oil change interval! Perhaps 5k interval would be safer

Thats why their are so many people who use nothing but cheap dino and change it every 3k miles can get very long engine life. They are simply putting in fresh oil so frequently. No need for synthetics really in many cars.

Wear looks just OK ... but you did push it a bit going past 5,000 miles ... and that TBN has just fallen out of the safe zone.

This oil is cheap and you don't have anything to gain by going that extra 20%.

Chevron said a couple years ago that their 5W30 and 10W30 Supreme were Group II+ oils ... and I inferred that their other weights were Group II. So, their 10W40 might be group II ... and seems more prone to shear down.

I'd guess that this stuff was actully thinner at one point of this interval but oxidation had already begun to thicken it back up.

I bet 10W30 would do just fine in the summer.

You got every last penny worth of use out of the oil with that low TBN, but the wear rates look good.

I would stick with 10W-30 rather than mess with the 10W-40 if using Chevron supreme. If you *really* want to run a heavier weight summer oil, use the Chevron Delo 15W-40.

Chevron Supreme is not a long life oil. I would try Delo 400 in 10w/30, the additive levels make it a better candidate for the longer oil change intervals.

"Chevron Supreme is not a long life oil."

Correct, no conventional PCMO really is.

Sure, if you can find it. If so, please post an analysis here. I'd love to see one ... or two, three, etc ...
