CHEVROLET small pickup ...

Alas, until the Maverick begins arriving in showrooms late this fall, truck buyers will have to make do with “midsize” pickups that aren’t actually much smaller than full-size pickups were just a couple of generations ago.

This guy, and many others, made due but just not considering any new offering. It appears mfg have just realized this.

That thing is ugly as sin. It somehow makes the other GM Montana look decent.

Doesn't matter -I wouldn't call it (the small pickup) ugly, not pleasing to the eyes - yes. But at $14,000.00 they will sell them.
$14K is what it costs in Mexico, without A/C. If GM was to bring it to the US, by the time they're done fitting it with all the required safety and emissions equipment, it would probably cost significantly more, which becomes a hard sell because for not a lot more you could get a larger truck.

The Maverick is like $19k with a hybrid system and I am sure it has A/C

I saw these things everywhere when I've made trips to central Mexico for work. I asked some of the workers in the plant there about them with excitement and they laughed because it's just a cheap little work truck down there.

Also saw a couple really cool newer Toyota Hilux, similar size to a new Ranger or Colorado.

In Brazil and Argentina, the Montana was powered by a two-valve, 1.4-liter 4-cylinder engine. Dubbed “EcoFlex,” the little mill was capable of running on either gasoline or methanol. Running exclusively on methahol, the engine was rated at 99 horsepower.

This is clearly wrong. What they sell at the pumps in Brazil is neat ethanol (E100) made from sugar cane, not methanol. They also sell unleaded but it is considerably more costly.

Otherwise, I don't think the Montana is that ugly. It looks like exactly what it is - a car with the back two thirds roof cut off. If you need a truck that looks like a bulldozer, maybe you need to check yourself in the mirror.

These types of pickups are very common here in Brazil and always had.

Here is the Fiat Fiorino back in the 90's, like many cars in that era, you could buy either the ethanol or gasoline version:

And today you can buy the Fiat Strada (flexfuel), also available with the extended cab:

VW and Ford also had the "Saveiro" and "Courrier"

Oops ! 😳 Does mention other small trucks . Not getting any younger .

From the linked article:

And, if you’re wondering why I’m writing about the current-generation trucks in the past tense, a bit of bad news: 2021 will be the last model year for the Montana/Tornado. As for African versions of truck, production was halted when GM pulled its operations out of South Africa in 2017.

No mention of a new generation.
