1941 Chevrolet pickup, rare???

A guy here in town has a 1941 Chevrolet pickup that needs to be restored. He stated that it was rare due to the war and not many being produced. I had also read that elsewhere. Why would this be? America didn’t enter WWII until the end of 1941. Seems to me that years 1942 and later would be more rare. Wouldn’t 1941 year models be ending their production run at that point?

Weren't we building things for the Brits under 'Lend Lease' earlier than then?
