US Bank is getting outrageous with fees.

Gonna' close a money market accout. The scum management decided that I should pay a $15 per month fee for an account paying me 70-cents in interest per month!!!

BAH!!!!!!

Greedy scum.

On-line banking may be the wave of the future. Banks with no brick and mortar presence paying decent interest with minimal to no fees.

Anyway, US Bank is now charging outlandish fees for check printing. Any suggestions on where to get basic nuthin-fancy checks printed? Want a firm where precautions are taken to protect my account and routing number.

Here is yer' chance to assist and old coot named Old Coot.

Get a warm fuzzy feeling TODAY!!!!!!!

No help here. When my bank went to "free checking" ..the check fees went rather high. From like $5 box to $20 a box (something like that). I use Intuit PayBill ..which is less than the postage for mailing the same number of bills/checks.

I feel your pain.

There are a bevy of online options. But I can tell you we pay zero (direct) fees to give someone the privilege of using our money! Even Paypal pays over 5% int. and only charges (us) merchants a fee on INCOMING!! (ducks)

Shop locally for the best bank or credit union.

We write few checks anymore but we use Checks In The Mail for our checks. citmreorder.com I'm not sure how their prices stack up, but they are reasonable, secure and very fast.

I have had good service from Image checks; see them at www.imagechecks.com

I order by mail; and their turnaround has been quick even without priority shipping.

Good luck and let us know what you find!

I don't have the name of the last vendor we used, but check the Sunday paper coupon inserts. There are usually one to three check printers who advertise. All of them beat standard bank prices. We purchase 400 at a time, so it's a long time between checking purchases; you may need only 200 or so at a purchase.

Check out http://www.superpages.com/yellowpages/C-Banks/S-NE/T-Omaha/

Several offer free checking and free online banking.

I've been banking online (solely) for the last 7 years or so. No brick and mortar for us. I pay no fees for my accounts, earn higher interest than offered elsewhere and have free bill pay. Also get refunded any ATM withdrawal fees (up to $6.00 a month).

Check www.firstib.com for more info (disclaimer: I work for the company that services their core database).

We bank with North Carolina State Credit Union. $1.00/month flat fee. Checks are free to Senior Citizens. Outstanding personal service. Don't know the availability of CU's in your area. Might be worth checking into. Online banking is beginning to sound pretty good these days.

Good luck obbop.

There are tons of cheap check printing mail order or online services. Typically, they are only cheap for the first order. Lately, I've been using Costco online check printing. I think they are about $11 shipped for 2 boxes of duplicate checks.

I could get him an account as a family member.

I just found out that NCFCU has lowered the age to 50 for free checks.

Don't use checks. You hand out everything someone needs to know to hit your bank account every time you write a check.

Use a credit card, its like a buffer betwen the bad guys and your money.

Or at least use a debit card. Or cash.

Same with some of the members here: I don't use checks at all.

I do all my bill paying (credit cards) online every month manually.

Never had to buy checks. Guess I'm the younger generation. I recently got my Grandpa to sign up for his first credit card after he asked what I was doing when I used my CC to pay for his gas.

Coot is in Nebraska.

There are utilities here that are baffled and bewildered when I ask about paying via credit card.

Check or cash at the payment stations that are far-removed from the shanty.

Nebraska MAY enter the 21st century in a few decades. Maybe.

Thus, still a need for checks.

Will look at the recommended sites.

Also, just thought of this, I believe one of my softwares allows me to print my own checks. That may be the cheapest method.... and the securest since one 3rd-party (the check printer) will not have the info on my checks.

Won't work.
Already thought of that. Was not able to find a printer cartridge with magnetic ink.
The funny looking script on the bottom of the check, (E13B font) is printed in magnetic ink. When payee trys to process said check, it will be rejected, possably followed by a visit from them FBI fellas..

"bevy"

Pablo used that word.

I like that word. It is a good word. A fun word. I like the way it sounds and is much more nifty than the boring oft-seen "many."

"Bevy." A man's word. An intellectual's word. Seldom uttered or written by the masses of cretinous creatures infesting the fruited plains and majestic purple hued elevated areas.

Kudos to the Pablo unit.

"followed by a visit from them FBI fellas"

Interrogated by a couple FBI dudes back in 1979.

Baltimore, MD it was.

In the basement of the main cop shop.

Played them like hooked fish. They thought they were in charge of the affair but Young Coot actually was.

After an hour or so began to feel sorry for my intellectual inferiors and ended the game.... in an a way that left me giggling to myself.

Great fun!!!!!!!

how do you handle checks and money orders paid out to you with an online bank? put them in an envelope and mail them?

You have two options:
1. deposit at an ATM - that's what I do. You will need to find an ATM that is on the same network that the bank has an agreement with. I found the nearby ATM-s from the bank's website.
2. you can mail the checks to them. My bank sends out prepaid envelopes on request. This may take time to show up on your account because of the post office transportation time. I've done this a few times when I was too lazy to go to the ATM machine.
