Check Printing

Watch out for those online-only banks.

Many (ahem, Netbank, ahem) are not, in fact, banks. They're thrifts. That means they follow an entirely different set of regulations and answer to an entirely different set of regulators.

I found this out the hard way a couple of years ago when I had a money market account frozen and had to spend an unfathomable amount of time sorting it out.

Coot is in Nebraska.

There are utilities here that are baffled and bewildered when I ask about paying via credit card.

Check or cash at the payment stations that are far-removed from the shanty.

Nebraska MAY enter the 21st century in a few decades. Maybe.

Thus, still a need for checks.

Same with me in north Alabama. If I don't have cash or check (cheaper to mail all things considered) I don't get electricity or city water.

Coot, you live in Omaha don't you? What utitiles don't take credit card? I could pay OPPD and Cox online with visa no problem! Don't know about MUD though.

Search google for walmart checks, they do check printing (go figure).

They were the cheapest, and did a great job with mine.

Many banks offer free checking accounts.

Appears Mal-Wart has the cheapest price of any place I peeked at. Gotta' peer some more and try to determine of they use an USA-based printer.

I do try to avoid foreign firms/purchases whenever possible.

Seeing the label on the Chevy pick-up indicating a Ft Wayne Indiana assembly plant DID affect that purchasing decision to a certain extent.

The trek continues........

My new bride and I, (oilbabe) just signed up for "Totally Free Checking" which includes single checks for free, not to mention free online bill pay, etc.

Why not just look for a bank that gives it all away hoping you overdraft or something to make their bucks.

I get my checks printed through Wal-Mart as well. Reasonable prices, no problems, and the checks usually arrive within 2 weeks.
