JOD,
No need to get all in a dither. No one said anything about being a M1 hater. It's just most of us see this differantly than you. Pictures can be dificult to see the details we all would like to see. I still don't figure how you can get rust on some cam lobes and not others, but oh well. Also what's this about Lindberg's baby!

well, I take exception to the "seeing what I want to see" comment. I don't want to see anything!! I was just looking at the photos!!! I agree, I thought it was the reflection when I first saw it, until the other guy mentioned it. Then I went back and looked; that's no reflection.

I don't know enough about this engine, and how it feeds the splash-lubed components to even make a guess as to why some look that way and some don't. But the first 2 or 3 on the driver's side are stained. I don't know what the stain is, or even if it's an issue--but honestly, I'd probably have some concern. Then again, with 240K on the clock, I wouldn't sweat putting a new cam on, either--nothing lasts forever.

The Lindbergh baby? we can stop looking for him now, I think he's probably dead from natural causes by now...

It's the back of the lobe? Maybe it is varnish? Maybe it is what the cam looks like when it is virgin? God only knows. The pictures aren't good enough quality to tell.

I guess this is the pic where some are saying there's pitting.

No. That just shows "virgin" cam where there is no wear, due to no pressure.
