Hard starting, cloudy fuel, sure sounds like water in the fuel system. My late model Yamaha two stroke outboard was miserable to start when I took it out of storage. I pulled the cowling and noticed 1/3" of water on the bottom of the fuel filter. I inspected the contents of the fuel tank and found close to half a quart of rusty coloured water in it. I drained the fuel filter, and the fuel tank, added fresh fuel and the engine started up on the second or third pull. Water in the fuel will cause starting problems but the engine will run even with water in the system. Check your fuel for water/debris.

Now that's going to be a J*O*B!! The filter is a piece of cake. Out in the open... easy to get to. The tank is another matter. Buried under the metal fenders and seat. Maybe a syphon would do the trick.

I suspect that its the E-10 fuel. I try to keep it fresh but tractor sat outside under a tarp for about 4 years until I could get it in my 'hanger' and the fuel gradually picked up moisture.

Cans are all vapor resistant w/ tight caps. Never get more than 10 gal at a time in four cans.

This has been the year for high maintenance on this machine... new drive belt w/ pulleys and drive belt and pulleys on the deck. Also last fall, new valve cover gaskets. Still at nearly 550 hours its been a good machine.
