Since my Bill Heard dealer closed up, I no longer have a place to find the filters cheaply. The only other GM dealer around here is a Buick, Pontiac, GMC. I called them up and they want $9 for the filter. Highway robbery if you ask me, considering Bill Heard charged $5 for it. Are there any other places that are cheaper online, or will I just have to suck it up and pay for it?

I forgot to mention, I prefer to use the ACDelco ones, as the Fram and especially the Supertech (the small rubber ring on it was misshapen on every one I looked at) seemed to be less superior construction.

AA has the ACDelcos for $5 and change. Napa Golds are pretty reasonably priced for that line also.

I've seen them here for that price too. Its an improvement over their old price, which used to be $9 if I remember right.

I watch their Sunday newspaper ads however; once or twice they've had coupons (mail-in rebates, actually) for $2 or $2.50, but whether or not they sell the Pure Ones for that price seems to be up to whoever is working the register. They're not consistant.

Check the euro parts discounters. You can get the saab part, hengst energetic, pretty cheap. Saab dealers also offer good deals sometimes...

The parts guy at my MB forum lists hengst at $6.08, mahle at $4.80 and a "white box" variety for $3.47 each. Mann is listed too, but you need to contact for a quote... It's probably in the $5-6 range.

A hint for buying online - many parts guys ship free if you buy $50-100 worth. You might want to stock up if getting filters is a pain.

By the way, hengst, Mann and Mahle are all very good euro brands, if you haven't heard of them. I use all with confidence.

You can also try the amsoil site sponsors for wix and mann filters, and our fleet filters sponsor for wix.

I am going to check that next time. I paid closer to $6 for an ST.

Don't forget one of BITOG's sponsors is fleetfilter.com who sells Wix filters for the Ecotec 2.2L, Wix #57082 for $4.43 plus shipping. I've bought from them in the past--excellent filters and even better service!

Every Advance Auto I have ever been to has no ACDelco Ecotec filter.

That never made sense to me, because it was a GM engine that is built in significant numbers.

I bought a purolator at advance for less than $6 IIRC; nice thing is, they included the cap o-ring, which the saturn dealer part doesn't include. good thing too, I never had changed it before, and the old one felt brittle when I took it off.
