Cheap ZDDP additive -- Engine Assembly Lube Paste

Hello there. I have a burning question. It occurred to me that rather than buying expensive ZDDP additives, I thought I'd just squeeze a bit of engine assembly lube paste (e.g., CRC Engine Assembly Lube with Moly-Graphite) into the crankcase (pre-mixed with oil, of course.)

I don't have a tube handy right now so I don't know how much I'd need (I'm trying to get Mobil 1 0W-40 to have ZDDP levels as high as 1200-1300 ppm), but I'm assuming I only need a cc or two.

Is there any downsides of this? Does the paste contain other ingredients that would be worse for my engine if I added small amounts at every OCI?

The assembly lube mix could 'drop out' of suspension and do nothing at all.You should try your oil assembly lube mix in a small gas engine,maybe an older lawnmower could be used as a test subject.

you can find lucas or redline break in additive online or ebay, but i wouldn't use it unless i had an old car that had no O2 sensors or cats. so much good oil out there you really don't need it.

Rotella has 1200-1400 ppm if you don't mind 15w40. haven't looked into their T6 10w30 for zinc/phos levels

This paste is used in normal engine assembly. If you got new camshafts, you'd apply it on its surfaces. However, the claims are that it only does its work during the first few seconds.

Do you think this stuff would actually precipitate and settle? I guess I could mix this stuff with some used oil, cook it, and then see whether it precipitates. But I was really looking for someone who had done this before....

Even if someone did this before, it would be REAL hard to have real specific comparative results.
I'd get the extra oil additive that is made for engines.
Some times you just gotta suck it up....
