Cheap Nextgen

Picked up 5 qt. jugs of 10-30 Valvoline Nextgen at local Walmart for 8 bucks a jug.( took the 4 that were left). Floor guy told me they aren't going to carry it anymore and they were closing it out.--going to run it in my Prk.ave. that has 190,000 miles on it. Never tried the stuff, and even though my stash is full of QS and Cenex products I thought for 8 bucks I couldn't resist.

All the Walmarts around here still have it, but they dumped G-oil.

One of our local Walmarts was clearancing the quarts of NextGen for $3.50/qt. I passed on that. Haven't seen any jugs on clearance. The one I normally frequent doesn't appear to be clearancing it at all.

The only real "score" I've ever gotten at Walmart is when they were clearancing out their quarts of Havoline years ago...probably five years ago. Since then, our local stores seem to either pre-plan well or are stubborn with what they have, because there are rarely any clearance deals going on.

IMO Valvoline is pricing themselves out of the market.

Taking the VWB off the shelf too? Up here that stills sells and our Walmart still has it on the shelf. As you remember Lexus114, I used to run VWB for years, but switched to QS because of price and specs. But the Nextgen must be allright-it must be close in specs. to regular VWB I would guess.

I'm still wanting to get my hands on some NextGen but last time I was in the states they did not have it in my grade. Shame, I was going to buy a jug or 2.

Good find at 8 bucks, though you can also buy jugs from AAP and Oreilly effectively for free after a mail-in rebate. It's a good conventional oil. Based on virgin oil analysis, it seems pretty much the same as the white bottle Valvoline Conventional oil. Perhaps, it's comparable to Mobil Super 5000. If you can find it cheap, try to buy the Maxlife NextGen version instead. It has a better additive pack, and usually costs a couple of bucks more.

It's surprising that Walmarts are pulling NextGen off the shelfs despite Valvoline's efforts to promote this motor oil.

That's right. This stuff is about on the same level with Mobil Super 5000 or Quaker State Advanced Durability. At Walmart's normal retail prices, Super 5000 and Advanced durability are much cheaper than either green bottle or white bottle.

They told me that they still had some more to put out on the clearance shelf----I've got to go in to town tomorrow with the better half as she wants to look at new carpet (oh!oh!-money,money)--I'll stop and see if they have some Nextgen Maxlife out. Thanks

My Walmart never discounts oil on the floor. I'm convinced that they have "contacts", ie small garage oil change shops, that buy all the discontinued oil at fire sale prices rather then this Walmart selling it to the general public.

Yup! Fargo, it's the one on 13th ave. It was on a clearance rack a couple of isles away from the oil isle-they just had the nextgen on it, no other brands of oil. The floor guy thought that they had a few more jugs to put out--check it out if you can.
