Any harm to the cars electrical system if I leave the cars Positive and Negative cables attached while I charge the battery via an external charger box?

No. I too up the batteries on seldom-used cars of mine all the time. In fact, I install a dedicated set of leads, terminated by an SAE plug for this reason.

Just make sure the charger is smart and doesn't take the voltage too high so as to damage capacitors and inboard electronics, and/or the battery itself.

Things can always go wrong tho , take cautions such as GFI outlet just in case.
