Changing inner cv joint boot

Tripod joints take very specific and very expensive grease that is the reason it is not included with many boot kits. The Motul is not the correct grease.

All that said I do a lot of Tripods and looked for a long time for a suitable grease, after talking to Mola and Schaeffers I found a grease that works well and hold up long term in these joints. 219 SynForce Green NLGI 1, it contains a different moly that protects like MoS2 but does not clog the needles. NLGI 2 is not really suitable in cold temps.

Update.....the only place I (we) could find the Schaeffer's #1 was Powerhouse Diesel. I placed an order with them for two tubes of the #1. They actually called me (Jessica was VERY helpful and competent) and said they only had one tube of #1 and asked if they could send me one of #1 and one of #2. I told her that's fine.

I also mentioned I think they've discontinued the #1 because I can't find it anywhere else. She also said she can't even find it on their (Schaeffer's) website, and I told her that was my experience, too. Ironically she said her rep was there earlier today and he said he's going to work on getting her more #1, but we both kinda suspect the rep may not be up to date with reality, ie the apparent possibility that #1 is NLA.

Anyway, I've at least got one tube of #1 headed my way and I would recommend Powerhouse Diesel -- just good, level-headed common sense service which is rare these days.

When I do a reboot for my self I powder coat the shaft use a new inner spider bearings and either clean (if still good) or replace the outer with a new joint which is usually a GKN on stuff I do mostly. I use new GKN thermoplastic boots and use 219 #1 on the inner and Redline CV2 on the outer. It cost me about $150 ea inc powder coating saving about $300 an axle so it is worth it.

Is there a reason you use CV2 on the outer over 219 #2? The product sheet for the #2 219 make it seem pretty on par with CV2 or is there something I'm missing?
