While doing some manual reading on a American Standard thermostat I realized I had not ever changed the batteries for the backup. It was installed in 2012. I turned off the power at the furnace switch and pulled the unit straight out from its “ docking plate”. The three AAA Duracells marked with a best before date of 2017 were corroded. In about five minutes I removed the batteries and cleaned up the contacts with fresh lemon juice and Q-tips. After popping in three new triple A’s I replaced the unit and turned the power on. I didn’t lose any of my settings. Not sure if that’s a time thing. All good. Here are some pics. All temps in degrees C. Enjoy.

Those are really old batteries, but it always seems to be Duracells leaking. Clorox wipes do a great job of cleaning up the mess they leave behind.
