Changed the oil today, had 4 quarts of castol 5w30 and .5 of asoil 10w30. When I changed it what looked like water was coming out below the streem of oil. I was like oh crap. I felt the "water" and found it to be oil. I am wondering what would cause oil to run as thin as water? It also poured out of my filter. I checked my coolant and no loss. I am positive is wasnt water. I just find it odd that there would be 2 viscosities of oil. one thick and one thin as water. I am confused!!! Any Ideas? My gaskets were just replaced so i know there not leaking, and again It ran like water, but didn't look or feal like water.

I also Noticed when I ran the amsoil 10w30 my engine sounded worse than ever. The pistons were slapping and other things were knocking. I changed back to dino castrol after 24 hours. My engine was still knocking so I changed it again from 5w castrol to 10w castrol and its quieter now.

A quick easy test for water is to take a small quantity of the fluid in question on a piece of metal and heat it with a gas flame. If it has water in it, it will pop and spit as the temp passes 100 deg. C.

Just pour a few ounces in a glass container and let it sit over night. The oil and water will separate and you will be able to see it. Oil on the top, water on the bottom.

What kind of engine are you running this in?

The 5w is like that in my Rodeo, I like to drain it hot and it comes out looking as thin as water.

I have a 93 Limina 3100, a 1992 Chevy 4x4 5.0L, a 2004 GMC 4x4 5.3L and a 2005 CTS 3.6L all running Amsoil and no problems whatsoever.

You have a very strange problem. No oil should have caused the slappng noise you describe. I have run Amsoil for 30 yrs.

Something is strange...Need more info on the condtion of the engine...

I just saw this thread.

What is .5 qt asoil?

If you are saying Amsoil caused this "water" situation after you mixed oils, I highly doubt it.

Then you go on to say Amsoil caused all kinds of noises. You need to provide more factual information.

Why is it always Amsoil's fault?
