been going by the OLM since new on my car I have 44,000 miles on it now (short trip driving here in Hawaii) using only conventional SM/SN
The last oil analysis I did came back with low TBN. running AMS XL right now, next oil change I'm going to move up to the Signature Series.

So for your Colorado, it's fine running it until the light tells to change.

+1 I believe GM recalibrated the OLMs for for 2011 and on for those vehicles.

Many opinions here so I'll give you mine.
Why would you want to leave that oil in for one year ?
Your in a very cold area and that is very hard on your
engine oil and filter. Many here are from warmer areas
and have no idea how cold it gets in Northern Ontario.
You do what you want but if it was me, I would change it
out every six months or 8000 km.
The GM dealer oil is from Shell Canada now and the Dexos 1
is a semi-synthetic.

My experience on my 2009 HHR has been that the OLM cuts it just a bit too close for my liking. Using run of the mill conventional oils my TBN is down to about 1.3 when my OLM is around 18% (approx 7300 miles). That's as low as I want to go with the TBN so if I am running conventional, I change it when the OLM hits 18%. I suspect if I run a good synthetic, I'll be able to run out the OLM all the way down to 0% (approx 9000 miles). I have a 5 quart jug of new formula G-Oil that I will use on my next oil change. I will run it down to 0%. If it looks like GET will hang in there for a while I will probably send out a UOA on it. If on the other hand GET looks like they are folding up shop, I won't do a UOA because the data would be useless.

I'd upgrade to a better oil filter if it was me, to provide better oil filtration vs the factory piece.

Wait until there is a sale and stock up! I stocked up on Mobil 1 oil filter for $6 each (retail is $12.99) and have many years worth of awesome oil filters to go along with any oil i choose to run. They are rated for 15k miles and i use them for 2x intervals up to 15k total.

There have been many posts re: the GM OLM on this forum. Bottomline; it's a really good tool and is on the conservative side based on UOA's. With oil as expensive as it is, I would certainly go by it and feel quite comfortable with an annual change. I have three GM cars running QS dino in two (LuCerne, Malibu) and QSUD in my Corvette and have folowed the OLM without incident of any kind.

If you former military guys were pinned down and called for backup and they would not come, what would you think> When I was in the military and the Army or Marines needed airsupport, we moved heaven and you know what to give them help. If they ( the help) , never came when they had time to get there, what would you think? Or in other words, they left to die....................
