I purchased a 2007 Honda Pilot earlier this week for the wife. It will be her daily driver, about 30 miles a day mostly highway. The car was sold as "certified" by Honda which included several fluid exchanges - ATF, brake, coolant, oil, power steering, etc. I checked all the fluids before purchasing and feel comfortable that all were changed except the p/s fluid, which I have already changed. I am fairly certain they used Pennzoil conventional as the oil fill as that is what they advertise in their oil change shop, and I know by inspection the oil filter is an OEM Honda by Filtech (supposedly the better filter). My question is how long to run this fill since I don't really know what it is. I know color doesn't matter but the oil on the dipstick is darker than I would expect for a recent oil change. I have some Synpower ready to go, but don't want to waste the oil fill if its OK. Any thoughts?

The 07 Pilot should have an OLM. Press the odometer reset button once or twice and it will show the remaining oil life. (I am assuming that a Honda dealer would take the time to reset it to 100%).My 07 Accord goes about 6500 miles before it gets to 15% at which time I change it. I have been using MC syn blend 5-20 which seems to like the honda 2.4L engine.FWIW--Oldtommy

The oil may not have been changed. Personally, I'd change all fluids myself if I were to buy a used vehicle. Drive the car 1k miles and change all the fluids including the oil. If everything was changed as stated by the dealership, you'll have an excellent flush and insure long fluid life of the new fluid you put in.

+1 on the MC syn 5-20. I have had two 2.4 Honda's it works well in them, plus its easy to find and cheap at Walmart. Tom

Yes, check the details of your certified warranty now before you void it.

For peace of mind I would definitely change it.

Check the Maintenance Minder. They should have reset it and check paperwork for the mileage of the change, if it was provided.

When I bought my 04 Xterra used from a Honda dealer I changed EVERYTHING. I don't trust dealers and nor do I trust previous owners.

I changed:
Front/Rear Diff Fluid
ATF
Oil
PS
Brake Fluid
Coolant was fresh though.

Well worth it to keep a piece of mind. Also replaced the shocks because Nissan OEM shocks are dead at about 25k(truck had 32k when purchased).

Change the oil, and take doubt out of your mind.

When ever I buy a vehicle, I change all the fluids. If they are less than new, then change it.
When I worked at the dealership, if a used car came in for a check, we always changed the oil, but if the filter had less than a thousand miles, we didn't change the filter.
