Change oil every 2k?!

In some countries that are under sanctions are don't get the luxury of the oils that we have on our shelves here in the US and the first world countries, due to the need for self sufficiency, they make their own national oil and oil brand which are subpar. Living as a kid in a less fortunate part of the world, I remember my older sibling used to change his Mitsubishi Galant engine oil every 3000 km...
This sort of reasoning can explain where this dude is coming from...

Everything you say is true, and if I lived in a Third World country, with poor materials available, I would have a very different approach.

However, this dude is in Japan, which I would have to call a first world country with the finest of materials available.

So his recommendation still makes no sense.

2k is nuts, way too long. Why not every fuel fill up? Jokes aside, it does make some sense in Japan. I lived there for four years and rocked a plain-Jane R32 across the country. While there is highway/wide-open driving it’s nothing like in America, Canada, Australia. Tons of stop/go, slower city driving. Naturally the conditions are harder on oil, 2k though?!??

"Million Mile Joe" is the insurance salesman who drove an early 1990's Honda Accord to 1,000,000 miles with original engine and transmission. He did oil changes at 5,400 intervals using ordinary oil.

Developing world mentality is getting the maximum use out of everything, and not wasting anything.

"Cheap insurance" is not developing world mentality imo.

We are talking about Japan, and oil in a brand new GTR though...
