I recently replaced a 3000 lb (dry) 5th wheel with a 4500 lb 5th wheel. Truck is a 2005 GMC 1500 with 5.3/4L60E, 68K miles. Was doing 5K OCIs with Mobil 1 5w30. This trailer definitely works the truck harder. Is there another brand I should consider and should I shorten the OCI? Of course it's hot here and there are some good uphill pulls. I tow once a month and drive 10K/yr.

thanks

5k on Mobil 1 5w30 sounds perfect to me with those conditions and our temps. Hot weather is actually better on oil then cold.

Oh yes we make it up there quite often. We have a cabin in Heber. It's got to be getting quite nice in cottonwood right now, especially at night? The end of the heat is in sight and hopefully we see some showers this weekend.

Yup you got LONG 6% grades in both directions of you

Mobil 1 5w30(SN) is a great oil, it should do well for you. If you want to make sure it stays in grade add some Mobil 1 0w40 to it 50/50. Your engine will love it. I think the 5w30 will be fine though.

That is still not a super heavy trailer. You should be fine with the Mobil 1 you are using and your current OCI. Maybe a used oil analysis when you drain the oil next will give you the warm fuzzies.

Or just go with the EP version, and add a little more miles to it. (to justify the extra expense)
