I wanted to change cause it's a full synthetic it's it worth the changed or its all preference. Thanks it's for 2003 nissan pathfinder 120000 miles and nissan quest 95000 miles both the same motor. I have run it for about two years with a fram ultra.

I'm guessing that you're talking about the Pennzoil Platinum High Mileage that is full synthetic. PPHM is actually different than other HM oils in that it's thinner than it's non-HM counterparts (maybe Gene Fishbeck can comment on it). Because of that it may be better as a preventative maintenance than to use on an engine that is already leaking.

On your year car and your miles I'd use conventional Pennzoil HM.

I'm running the PPHM 5w30 over the recommended 5w20 and will report back with an UOA at the end of the OCI.

X2. Regular PHM is great stuff as is the Castrol you are already using. But if I could have only one it'd be the Pennzoil.

GTX HM 5W-30 last tested by PQIA was viscosity at 100C 12.01. Pennzoil Platinum High Mileage 5W-30 is 10.1 according to the product data sheet. Pennzoil High Mileage 5W-30 bronze bottle is 11.7 according to the product data sheet. My Oldsmobile sounds better on the thicker stuff, and I have used GTX HM and Pennzoil HM, and I like them both. That thin stuff does not sound good in my Olds.

I think how similar is it to Shell XHVI is a better question.

How about Valvoline Maxlife red bottle? I know it wasn't one of the choices you offered for discussion so my apologies for going off topic, but it is a synblend and thus a compromise between the GTX HM and PPHM.

Not really. GTX HM is a synblend as well.

My error, yes it is.

First you go off topic and then you accuse GTX HM of being a conventional.
I think you should send everybody on the board a PM with a personal apology!

VML is my go to HM oil. It gets a lot of praise here. It's made a difference in consumption on my Sonata. I've got some new Edge HM waiting to go in next. I haven't run any Castrol labeled stuff in a long time.

I agree with Pscholte.

The comments below are mine and not connected to any other post

Merc's post was tongue in cheek asking for an apology, nothing untoward in the exchange of posts of I have seen.

Merc as you got this going jn a wrong direction please apologise for misdirecting the conversation to Wemay as he was just offering an alternative. He was apologetic in the post when he mentioned synblend.

I thought the post was fine.

When did the Law come out just because an OP wants views on a full syn a member cannot off a syn blend as another choice in the same thread, gents ??

I don't think the pureplus GTL process uses FT waxy raffinates as feedstock - the Shell story board shows "syncrude".
I have a bad toothache and cant concentrate today. I did work through this question a year ago but being old, and NOT a Chem-E major, I forgot everything I researched

Hey jxthomps - We're starting another round of our Pennzoil Used Oil Analysis program for 2016, and we'd love for you to be able to test Pennzoil Platinum High Mileage against the competition. If you're interested in getting enrolled, please send us a private message. Talk soon! - The Pennzoil Team
