Change before or after trip?

Hey guys, me and my wife have a trip planned to Disney world the beginning of Sep. Its a 700mile trip one way in the summer heat. Car is a 2014 dodge dart, current fill of oil is synpower that has 5k miles on it and 6 months in the sump. Now normally I would run the olm down to 5-10% but this fill has been short tripped a lot and the weather has been very hot here in southeast louisiana. I have a case of pp and a fram ultra ready to go in but I would like you guys opinion on this. Thanks

Even with being short tripped alot , I forgot to mention that the car runs 3k rpm at 80mph.

My understanding was that the OLM took into consideration short trips and temperature. If so then why would you change at a different OLM %. This would of already been taken into consideration.

The oil should be fine, change it when you return and enjoy your trip. The long trip will let your car reach operating temperature and stay there, doing the oil and engine some good.

If you feel the need to even ask, then your comfort level is being reached. If it feels good to change it, then do it. Oil might probably be fine leaving alone till after the trip. Your call. All of the arguments about highway miles and long trip would be equally valid on old oil or a fresh fill. If you can afford the trip to Disneyworld, then an oil change is nothing in regards to cost. Just go with what feels right. Life is way too short to fret over a few quarts of oil.

Follow the OLM. If you search around, you'll notice that this question comes up often, and the consensus is that you should follow the OLM, and that highway miles at the end of an OCI aren't very worrisome.

If you consume any oil at all, just make sure to check the dipstick often.

If you're at 40% and only doing 1400 mi of highway use, I'd run it and plan on changing when you return, and don't sweat it.

In Feb my wife and I made the trip to Disney, a little over 1000 miles each way. Olm was at 40%, it finally tripped a few weeks later at 15% after I got home. 2010 Acura TL

That oil is still good and will do that trip easily

Last month I made a trip to Florida in my Fusion. I drove 2300 miles on Mobil 1 0w20 that had 8K on it when I left Illinois. I have done this several times and never have had a problem.

If you are a true diehard BITOG fan, you will change it before and after

Change it before by about a day or two. Then it will have easy highway miles on it and when you get home it's one less thing to do. You can flop on the couch and finally be h-o-m-e sweet home.

I always do an OC before a long road trip.
