Champ XL PH2840XL cut open

Came off my autoX Turbocharged Tercel. Has about 2500miles was ran with Redline 5w40

Awfully black but otherwise looks good. Currently wicking the oil out and will update with media pictures later on.

I cannot see any light thru the seam.

It does appear a bit dark but drying it out would net you a better idea of how loaded the filter is. You going to run another one of these? I think Champ says these are good for 15,000 miles.

It lived a hard life and I was dealing with some tuning issues. The car currently has a Full filter that I wanted to try during the offseason but will likely get another Champ XL next spring with fresh Redline.

Yeah the oil darkness seems like it was real sooty. Leading me to think too much fuel being dumped into the cylinders and contaminating the oil quickly. Hope you get it figured out.

Yeah I was dealing with some sensor issues early on in the year and ran it fat on boost for a little bit to keep things safer until i had it sorted. I actually run it pretty clean (normally). I actually run it slightly leaner offboost then stock did. Next year I would assume it will look alot better.

I do not know if I should be worried. I think the main source is from the head being machined and was not cleaned out well.

Every pleat has this. No other surprises tho

It did its' job-kept it out of the bearings!

Yes but here is the funny part...I have another from the original batch of 4 i had bought and it had a louver tube. I cannot remember what the other 2 have...one still in service.

Total Quartz 5w30 and a Full filter (just for the offseason)

Need more rubber bands at top and bottom of the media for a faster wick job.

Every pleat has this. No other surprises tho

I doubt it is but is any of that white stuff magnetic? Have a magnet handy? Silicon type material?

Ita definitely aluminum looking. Metal but not magnetic
