I emailed champ couple of days ago in regards to the AcDelco going E-Core.

I basically asked them what the differences between the Ac and the ST were that justified the extra dollar and a half. And/if there were any differences between them at all. I know that AcDelco had more pleats.

But is the E-Core design actually better as far as filtration goes? I trust running the E-Core I use them often.

Just figured you guys would like to know.

"Charles,

Although there is a little variance between the Supertech filters versus the A/C Delco, the qualities related to the E-core style of filter will be the same. We have upgraded the media in the E-core style filters and have better filtering efficiencies using the E-core design.

is the Honda app ST7317 a E-core? I looked at one the other day, had a blue plastic bypass valve.

Im sure that this will be totally dismissed by the skeptics who insist that unless they pay over a certain amount then the filter is junk.

I honestly do not know. I really have not seen champion filters with blue bypass valves. Usually they are black, the way you can check if it is ecore is if it has a second faceplate over the original and has black (i think it is nylon) cage in the center tube.

I put my used Auto RX clean phase oil into my dads car (filtered through scott shop towels first). The filter on the car was a Super Tech e-core, and we noticed after about 1,000 miles that the oil was actually significantly more clear than it was when I put it in.

I'd love to see some beta numbers for these new improved e-core filters.

Seems to be confusing. Ecore, black plastic cage in the center and nonwoven end cap. Regular, metal center tube and a blue plastic button in the steel end cap in the dome end. I have read the only bigger ones are Ecore. The small 3593A isn't. The 3 1/2'' STP 3950 isn't. A recent thread said the small PF 52 is. Of course every brand and number of filter seems to change with the phase of the moon.

It's deja vu all over again.

Super Tech's currently that are < 3in. dia. are NON Ecore, blue button bypass, metal endcaps and center tube. That description fits the Honda app # 7317. ST's > 3 in. dia., eg.#3614, are Ecore.

HTH

You missed the thread that claimed a PF 52 was an Ecore and you think I am too dumb to tell the 3 1/2'' STP 3950 wasn't?

Your theory seems to being raped by a gang of facts.

Have a 3500 mile sample from a G20 Infiniti to send in for a used oil analysis with Super Tech 4967 & Super Tech 5w30 conventional. Will have a 5000 mile sample in December to send in from a ZX3 Focus for used oil analysis with Super Tech 3614 & Super Tech 5w30 conventional. No oil added to either cars between oil/filter change. Never had used oil analysis performed on either car and been using Super Tech for last 5 oil/filter changes in both vehicles.

Looking forward to seeing the results with SuperTech conventional oil & filters. Been thinking about going to synthetic with another filter for extended OCI, but if Super Tech does well on the 3500 & 5000 mile used oil analysis, see no reason to change oil or filters.

I have a ST3950 on the truck right now that is a Ecore, I also have a ST16 sitting in the garage that is Ecore for the jeep. I beleive champ is begining to phase all of their filters to ecore. Possibly after supplies run out.

I think Bill in Utah has done ST cut opens and follow up used oil analysis aswell. His posts sold me on ecore, honestly.

Search feature here is bad so i cant find the threads sorry.

Where did you get the ST3950? I haven't seen one since I cleaned out the clearanced ones at my Wal*Mart 2 year ago. They were cheap and as near as I could tell, they were about the same everything else with the PH 3950 being junk and the PF 1177 having half again more media.

Been running a bunch L10193 junk, dome end metal to metal bypass and a lot less media. Completely Bosched up. I don't think Purolator ever was anything special.

I would even be happy to pay an extra buck for an STP 3950 that was an Ecore.

They will probably be keeping their "premium" line the same, ala Mobil 1, K&N, Royal Purple.
Wasn't the older Delco made by Wix and not Champ?

Yes, the one I pulled off my truck was a wix the other thats in the garage is a champ non-ecore. Both were purchased at the same exact time...lol

Back in the day Delphi used to make them before they went bankrupt and sold off their Battery, spark plug, and filter lines.

I remember those. I think they were pretty good.
The PF60 I got last was 6.50 at the dealership, I think I coulda got the same thing at auto bone for 2.50 in a white Valuecraft. Paid for that name...

You need to take a hooked on phonics course. Perhaps that way YOU would be able to learn how to read.

I wrote Super Tech's, which are NOT STP or AC, they are made by Champ for Walmart are exactly as I posted.

So get a clue before you post such an ugly expression, and you are WRONG. You only make yourself look foolish.

Get YOUR "facts" straight. I stand by my post.

btw, you post/claim a lot of Purolator oil filter junk that is bogus and not backed by the facts.

The L10193's I have cut open are little better inside than a Fram, trash, trash, trash. Tell your boss they can't fool everybody.
