Where is the L10193 made? Should say on the label located on the side of the filter. Maybe it's not a USA made Purolator (?).

When it comes to the amount of filter media it is much closer to Fram than anything else, except the Micro guard, and it has a dome end, metal to metal bypass. The steel end caps don't make that much difference to me. When American owned, they had about as much media as the various Champ and Hastings filters.

I am looking forward to cutting open the STP I have on my truck now and see if Champ has cheapened it too. Looking at the element through the center tube, it looks as long as always unlike the Purolator.

Now that it's been established that you have difficulty reading, ie., knowing the difference between ST as in Super Tech and STP the answer I posted to the OP's question stands. Super Tech oil filters , 3in dia. Ecore.

Won't even waste my time defending/praising Purolator oil filters, Classic, Pure One and those like MC, made by Puro. Plenty of posts already on this board have done that for me.

My "boss" would have no interest in your thoughts Purolator oil filters, not sure he would know one to look at it.

labman -- let's try this again. Where is the L10193 made? Look on the side label to see.

Who doesn't have some form of metal-to-metal bypass valve seal. Many do. If the bypass design in the Purolators was bad, their filters couldn't have as high beta ratios as they claim. If a PureONE's bypass valved leaked, the filter they test to could never obtain a 99.9% @ 20 micron rating.

It's the efficiency of the media present in the filter, NOT the amount of media.

According to you guys that fluffy fiberglass airfilter you just put in your return air duct should be more efficient that the thin, pleated media in the newer HVAC filters. But you and I both know it's not.

You need to know media efficiencies to compare filter elements, Nor media cosmetic appearances.

Ah efficiency, the great unknown. Where do I find the data for the media? Beta ratios are based on a new filter. No telling how soon the media loads up. Efficiency goes up, but flow goes down until the bypass opens. Likely one the bypass never opened to get grit in the metal to metal seal.

Most of the thread end filters have rubber seals.

aren't Super Tech filters and STP filters identical and made by champion labs?

They are both made by Champion and the STP may be the same as the ST, I don't know.

I made no claims about STP in my posts. If STP or AC or whoever else Champion makes filters for, has Ecore in 3in or > , then they are the same or similar. For ST, < 3in. dia. is non ecore. But you don't have to take my word for it, read the thread below. Gary Allan and Bill in Utah have said similar in the thread below. Lot's of good info about ST's, especially from Bill

Purolator also makes Motorcraft and Powerflo and others for different companies. Are they all the same? NO. They are similar in construction as far as metal endcaps and centertube, but not the same. Each company has their own specs.

Not exactly. The in the mutipass test, filter is recirculated with continuously added particulates until the pressure drop reaches a predetermined point. Then the average efficiency is taken.
