Chainsaw spark

Hi,I have recently done work on my Remington mighty mite bantam chainsaw I reattached my condenser wire and now have spark consistently showing light on my spark plug tester however there is no spark coming off the plug?? Perhaps it's the wrong plug I bought it with Champion CJ6 the replacement plug the young man had sold me as a replacement is longer JC6?? Which is right ;what is the right plug for this chainsaw and can a good plug let me see the spark?

When I was reviving the Echo on the Mantis tiller, I had 4 plugs and no spark from any of them. I tried the plugs one at a time in my Stihl chainsaw. All 4 started the saw. A good plug should have a blue spark, but unless its dark, you may not see it. To test the coil on a Lawnboy I clamped the plug to ground with a spring clamp for hands free testing. I saw a good spark. If the plug is the same thread and is the right depth, it should spark regardless of the part number. If it fits your mower,try it in that. If it fires....

Are you getting the plug grounded? I usually have a hard time to find some metal to ground the plug to on small 2 cycle engines. Want to make a good spark tester? Take any plug, and break off the ground electrode. Any good ignition will jump spark to the shell, and it will be much easier to see.

Are the points OK? When sitting around they can get oil or other stuff that prevents good contact.

I don't know what "light up" means but you should see actual sparks. These systems when not working properly can shock you etc. but won't make a spark that can fire the gas.

You can even use a J8 just to check the spark, you likely do not have a good ground when checking. You will know if the extended tip won't work when the piston hits it..
