Is a rating of CF the same as CF-4?

I ask this because my Harley Davidson owner's manual says to use a 20W-50 that meets CF-4. I look at my bottle of Mobil-1 and is just says CF (among other designations).

Thanks,
Dennis

I think the CF is very light diesel, like a passenger car maybe, wimpy stuff as diesel oil goes. I would recommend you get a full blown CF-4 rated oil for that bike. Valvoline makes a motorcycle 4-stroke oil, not sure the rating, can find out at valvoline.com though. Saw it at Murrays Auto (one of the CSK stores).

CF is for light passenger car diesel engines, CF-4 is for "high speed" four stroke diesels, and CF-2 is the highest rating for two stroke diesels such as the Detroit Diesel two cycle engines.

CF is not nearly as stringent of rating as CF-4. CF-4 has been superceded by CH-4, CI-4, CI-4+ and CJ-4.
