The new, improved (?) Mobil 1 15w50 jugs I bought last week have no diesel designation that I,in my very limited wisdom, can recognize. New Jug says:API,SN,SM,SL and ACEA A3/B3,A3/B4. Are these ACEA ratings for diesel as well as gasoline engines? The old jug says SM,SL/CF and that is it. I have been running it in my Harleys,Boxer oilhead and wet clutch Triumph Scrambler with good results. Any downside in using the new formulation in these applications?

Copy and Pasted from Mobil web site.

Applications

Mobil 1 15W-50 is recommended for all types of vehicles, suitable for use in high-performance turbo-charged, supercharged gasoline and diesel multi-valve fuel injected engines found in passenger cars, light vans and trucks.
•Mobil 1 15W-50 is suitable extreme engine stress conditions, where conventional oil often may not perform.
•Mobil 1 15W-50 is not recommended for 2-Cycle or aviation engines, unless specifically approved by the manufacturer.

Formulation is definitely not the same as SM or previous, but it does still meet CF.

You say that like you have tested the new formula... Are you positive it is different, or are you a keyboard commando? I've been using the silver cap for a few oil changes now, and it is the same formula as the old red cap. Just different packaging, according to Mobil.
