ccs and 5 w 30 oil

i have a 1995 plymouth neon. iw as reading hee, about CCS and 5 w 30, tha it has to meet 6,600 cp at -30. so what does it mean, if a synthetic(havoline) CCS is 3,700 at -30, and quaker state synthetic is 6,100 cp at -30?
i am using valvoline maxlife 5 w 30 now, have a seal leak issue. ccs is 5,700. seems to me, Mobil 1 flowed better. so far, with valvoline no oil has leaked! i am wanting to try havoline synthetic and adding a good seal conditioner. my car REALLY loved havoline dino, but it has alot of moly, somehin i am trying to avoid. car has 69,000 miles.

why are you trying to avoid moly? and what the heck are you asking?

and why not go with a true synthetic instead of using a Group III like Havoline Synthetic?

6600 @ -30c is a MAXIMUM....

that means it's pushing the maximum viscosity allowed for a 5w30. The lower the number the better cold cranking.

Frankly, I doubt you will ever be able to tell the difference between a maximum and minimum ccs oil so quit worrying so much about the technical numbers.

i am not worrying at all! geesh its a question! i was reaing about it,a nd all iw nated ot do was know what it was. simple asnwer would have been fineor nto to have answered at all then.

Hey, you're not worrying, you're just having fun and trying to be educated like the rest of us oil heads.

The Havoline synthetic looks good with that low CCS. An even better number is MRV (mini rotary viscometer) which is also better the lower. Be careful comparing a 5wXX and a 10wXX will have different temperatures for the CCS and MRV measurement and cannot be directly compared.

Don't want moly? There are many other synthetics and they should also have very good cold properties. Maybe some of that new Pennzoil Platinum would work (don't know but I don't think it has much if any moly).

GC does not have anything in it except a good base stock. Maybe that is the type of oil he is looking forn.

how would i know which oil has alot of moly, and which ones dont? for both conventional and synthetic? i have a prinout o the oil specs, the data sheet rather from this site. what would i look for?

Sometimes it is on the product data sheets at the oil company's web site, but the absence of moly on the data sheet does not mean it is not there. I would check the new oil analysis forum here and maybe even the used oil analysis forum. Moly is usually a parameter evaluated in every analysis. With SM there may be more using moly.

thanks all: ) i had read, online about a report a guy did on oils, ect. he was saying that too muh moly isnt good. it sticks to the oil pan, the cylinder walls ect. i am not afraid of it! i am trying ot find that one oil my car will like, as natural as possible so to speak. its the oil that lubes, not the moly. i had read, havoline uses a 'good dose' of moly. i am finding out now, its common with Sm oils. personaly, only really good oil my car ever liked, was havoline, she took off like a race horse! most otehr oils out thier, includin synthetics, she dosnt have as much power so to speak. you can feel what your car likes and dosnt like,. just doing some fom of 'homework' heree;;... thanks

Ziggy, go to virgin oil analysis and click on voa's a whole bunch. It will tell you the amount of moly in many oils.

i doubt moly will built up since its microscopic.

it just fills in tiny imperfections in your engines cylinder walls and reduces friction.

also if moly was bad, then why do people dose their oils with valvoline synpower oil treatment which has a large dose of moly?

it doesn't hurt if your car likes havoline...keep on using it. Saves you money, your car loves it and it has a great additive package.

Are you afraid of Boron too? I don't think any oils would be overdosed with moly or boron when they come out of the bottle. Those addatives cost too much. However, looking at Redline, that is a lot of moly.
