Ford has released a Customer Satisfaction Program. Owners of affected vehicles will be receiving letters soon with all the facts on this problem with the transaxle in the 2010 Fusion and 2009/2010 Escape built before 3/8/2010.

The cause of the failure which is noted in the letter you receive, is the transmission valve body. Per the program, If your vehicle has less then 7000 miles, your PCM (computer) is recalibrated. This calibration change updates the control of a solenoid in the valve body which regulates/controls a specific valve that is not operating correctly.

If you vehicle has over 7000 miles, immediately after the calibration update the dealership's transmission technician will perform a specific load test to verify the condition of the transmission. There is zero-tolerance for this test. The result is either "0" slippage or "more then 0" slippage. If there is "0" slippage, the vehicle's transmission is released.

If the transaxle fails the load test with (a reading above 0), under the program the transmission technician will remove and teardown the transaxle for repair. If during the teardown the technican finds ANY damage beyond a specific parts list, the dealership management team will call Ford Engineering for further action.

The affected Vehicle Identification List was activated in Ford's system April 19 2010. Feel free to call your dealership with your VIN and find out if your vehicle is in the program if you are close to 7000 miles.

However long the line may end up, you may well want to be at the front of it.

Again, Ford Motor Company is taking this issue very seriously. There has been a delay in accurate information due to Ford Engineering working to the root of the failure and they have confidence in the program.

If your valve body was already replaced as part of a previous repair before 3/31/2010, you still need to go in for the software update under the program.

If you own one, better get it done soon. Or else, your transmission may continue to wear prematurely!

That problem actually goes back a few years. If you do a search on fusion and excape problems you will see it along with a few other issues poping up...

rszappa, this is a brand new, completely different transmission than the one that there was problems with in the past. There is bound to be teething troubles. Happens to every manufacturer, not just ford.

They also are having a problem on the 6f35 ytanny on the fusion and escape with a half shaft problem.... there is a TSB out on it....

Is this why Ford stock went down 6.15% today?

Same problem happened to me about a month ago with my 2010 non-hybrid; here's my full story.
TLDR: I think it all depends on your dealer. The service dept for my dealer is #1 in the area and they took care of me.

Story: Right around the 10k mile marker, i noticed the transmission shifting very awkwardly and rev'ing up into the 7k rpm range. Luckily, i was just around the corner from my dealership and took the car in IMMEDIATELY. i cant stress that enough, if you have a new car and you notice somethings not right...dont wait!! I took the car on a quick test ride with the tech and right away he knew what the problem was. He said the early production of 2010 fusions had the wrong/bad transmission installed. My dealership replaced it with a brand new one fit for the car and everythings been perfect since. In fact, i noticed an incredible difference even before the old one went bad.

Sure, it took a week and half for them to get the new part from factory and replace mine. But the dealership got it right and replaced the whole tranny and didnt beat me around the bush trying to rebuild it or anything like that. They gave me a loaner free of charge until all was complete. All in all, it probably depends on how much homework your dealership will do for you. And if your yelling, screaming, and being a *** doubt they'll go the extra mile.

Did you get any resolution with the transmission problem?

I feel your frustration for am I in the same boat. My ford fusion has 12,000 miles on it and has been at the dealership since March 5th waiting for parts to come in from who knows where. The transmission would rev for about 8 to 10 seconds before it would shift into gear.It requires skill pulling out at a red light light or stop. I think I need a neck brace from the car bucking. The dealer told me the transmission parts should arrive by March 30th. Good luck to you. After reading some of the other postings I fear this fix will not be the end of my transmission problems.

I've been having transmission problems at the 8k mark. I brought it in March 12, and finally got a diagnosis today. I was told that the direct clutch and the overdrive clutch have burned up. The dealer is waiting to hear from Ford about repair vs. replace.

Not what I was hoping for in a new car.

have a 2010 fusion 4 cyl....having same trans problems. I'm at about the 10k mark... just got it in sept 09. Going to be bringing it in tomorrow morning. Hopefully they don't give me the run around! Noticed problems around 8k mark as well.

I bought a 2010 Ford Fusion in July of 2009. I am now having trouble with the transmission. The manager at the dealership service department said there have been several issues with the transmission. The work load has doubled due to this issue. I'm still upset that I'm driving a new vehicle and I'm having these problems. I hope they fix the problem. My only concern now is the problems I will have with this vehicle in the future.

I'm glad to hear they fixed the problem. I'm in that situation now. The dealership is waiting to hear back from Ford to go to the next step. I had to fight for a loaner from the dealership but finally got one today.

So after I had it in at the dealer, they ordered a new valve body. From what I can tell from other postings, it won't be available until at least 3/31. They said my car was drivable and not to worry. I also sent e-mails to Ford corp directly. After venting my frustations the girl asked me "Well, what exactly do you want?" I said since this is not a good rap to be having transmission issues on such a new car - I expect it at 120,000 miles - not 12,000, I would like them to give me an extended warranty (since I put on 24,000/yr). They said they couldn't do that. Again, not a good rap in my book. Let's see after I get the valve body fixed.....

We have been having the same issues as mentioned in basically everyone elses posts. However, our probelms began at 3,200 miles. Bought the car in December 09, 4 cyl, 6 speed...

Wow. Seriously?

Well, 6.15% translate to $.89.

We have been doing a lot of trans work on the newer escapes and mariners with 6 speed autos. there is a reason why my dealer keeps like 6 of the seal kits for these in stock most of the time along with trans cases, we only stock 1 for the 4r70w.

and ya, i lost a decent amount of money today from my Ford stock, meh it will go back up.

And I thought those "transmission death" sounds were coming from a early 90's Dodge Caravan.

I hear a lot of 2010 Fusions with that noise. Earlier models didn't have them, why did it affect this model?

Exactly, following Ford on a day to day basis is useless....The 6% we lost today was gained in the last two weeks...No problems.

So, this only affects cars built prior to 3/8/10? We just bought a 2010 Fusion and it would suck to have to deal w/ this already.

I am a bit worried though; I've noticed two things w/ the trans behavior.

1. You can feel the downshifts quite well when coming to a stop(3-2 very noticeable, 2-1 just a little).

2. In traffic the other day, coasting around 20mph, it "slammed" into the next gear. Hasn't happened since?

Car has 400 miles now, you can still feel the downshifts. The door sticker says built 4/10. Any thoughts?

You're fine, don't worry.

Six-speeds do tend to behave a bit differently than four speed automatics, so I'm sure yours is fine.

I hope so, we love the car! Nice ride, handling, features and it looks great. Sport Blue Metallic w/ the front painted that color instead of chrome and 18" rims. Just need tint now.

Is the Corolla gone?

Check my tint thread in the Photos Section and read up on the Llumar Air Blue 80 tint.

EVERYTHING dropped on the market yesterday, but all in all, things are up. Wow. In general, their seems to be lots of transmission issues with almost all manufacturers....Fords, Honda's, etc. etc. Wonder what's up with that?? On my F150, I read on some of the Ford forums that those tranny's are notorious for failing clutches because they are designed to slip a lot to give a smoother shift. I put in a Factory Tech shift plate and bada bing....that thing will bark the tires at the 1-2 shift point when floored.

Exactly, the down was down about 2% yesterday. I was hit a lot less with precious metals up and strangely, international was up as well.

I haven't looked today.

Nearly everything was down yesterday, so Ford down isn't all Ford, it's the market responding to problems in Greece and worries other governments are teetering on default.
