Cat defends child attacked by dog

Small children, families, strangers all seem to flock towards my brother's 70 lb Boxer in public. Since he's so calm, doesn't bark, gentle, no stink or shed etc. He even goes for visits at a nursing home as a therapy dog. Goes on trips from Northern VA to MI. Very well behaved and came from a shelter when he was 9 mos old. The first owner paid $900 for him and they paid $100. First owner was a military guy. On the paperwork it asked the first owner what his negatives were. The answer was "none". Of course two different dogs have bitten him at the dog park. One was a pit bull and the other was a chow.

Boxers are droolers, but tend to be sweet dogs, if a bit stubborn at times. Not likely to attack anyone though despite stubbornness.

The dog in the cat counterattack video is apparently a chow...not surprising. Chows can be perfectly fine dogs, but most people aren't responsible enough to own them. Period. Without solid training and upkeep, they are dangerous to own.

A lot of frowned upon dog breeds (Rots, Pitts, Chows) can be very good dogs, but people neglect to do the proper training and after that, maintenance in the form of an energy outlet. People let the dog sit in the house all day, let it out to take a dump for 10-15 minutes, then wonder why it gets into trouble during that time frame. Imagine if prisoners were released for 15 minutes a day to go to the convenience store or do whatever they want? It's not really much different. People just don't understand that dogs (esp. more aggressive by nature breeds) require maintenance. It's not a fish, or even a cat. The great thing about cats is they are happy when you leave, and don't really care that much about when you get back as long as there is food...but then they will turn around and kick the untrained, out of control dog's [censored] when it tries to kill your kid.

I like dogs, i have two. A german shepard/austrailian cattle dog mix , and a boston terrier.
I don't have much tolerance for sorry dog owners or unpredictable dogs that are dangerous. Certain dogs cannot be raised/owned by passive weak owners. Pit bulls/rottweilers/ Dobermans raised correctly are not a problem but raised incorrectly are a huge problem. Once raised incorrectly contrary to popular belief , i don't think you can correct/fix those breeds.

We had a boxer when my son was young, i felt very comfortable with him playing ouside as the dog was protective and stayed by his side where ever he went. Too bad most boxers don't live that long.

I had a run in with a Newfoundland dog at my old job.

It was laying on the couch in a home office. I thought it was a pillow.

It got up, looked at me and fell back asleep. That thing was huge.

I don't think it would have been able to muster up the energy for that.

When I was small I was riding my bike down to the local marina and a white german shepherd crossed the street and bit my leg.I got loose and made it to the top of the hill and made a high speed run back down the hill outrunning the dog. When I got home my mother called the Sheriff's Dept.A deputy came out and talked to us and then talked to the owner when she got off work. She denied her dog would ever bite anyone. The deputy shrugged his shoulders and left.

One of the neighbors heard about it.He noted that he quite often saw the dog nosing around a dumpster down the road from his house and that he had a 22 magnum. The dog vanished after that.Probably before the scabs came off my bite site.

The same thing needs to happen to that dog in the video(I probably would have wore out a set of kneecaps kicking that dog if I did not stop and grab a weapon) .I probably should have been scared of dogs after that but we had nice friendly bird dogs at home and I knew not all dogs were mean.Hopefully this kid will get over it okay.

My dad was never much for cats. But when I was around 12 or 13 a pair of yard cats showed up and I have never been without a cat since. One or two of them would probably have acted in my defense but most would not have.We had one cat that did not like to see our dogs fighting and would come out of nowhere and slap both of them in the face while at a full run.The dogs would stop fighting and stand there looking confused(WTH just happened?)But I love my kitties any way.

My favorite story along these lines was a few years back.A little girl in New York had a small cat and they were inseperable. One day as she was going back upstairs to her family's apartment from playing. A perv tried to snatch her into his apartment. The cat went up one side and down the other side of him leaving scratches the entire way.The perv let go of the girl who ran home and the cops were called. The perv was easily identified by the claw marks when the building was canvassed.

That cat was fed well from then on.As should this one. This cat would be eating well and have it's choice of laps to lay on until it crosses the rainbow bridge. That is one good kitty.

I can think of a few other things that are better than cats that are not safe to discuss on this board! But I tend to agree; in the domestic animal kingdom, cats are hard to beat. I would honestly put my 20 pound Siamese male up against most medium to large sized dogs. Pound for pound, he's tougher than any dog I've seen and much more fearless.

Definitely. They are supreme predators. Amazing animals.

They still retain a lot of their wild instincts. Yet, they come house trained right out of the box.

Training is hard ... since they are still pretty wild compared to a domesticated dog.

I think if the world ends (economic colapse, war), cats will survive much better on their own than dogs.

Only reason that I tolerate one in the house is that they kill funnel web spiders...that's Chuck Norris tough.
