Castrol Transmax Universal and viscosity?

Castrol claims this fluid is an end-all be-all, but at 7/35cST @ 40/100*C it doesn’t fit into the “low-viscosity” specs of Dex-VI/Merc-LV, WS and other low-viscosity fluids. In practice, what could happen? I know GM, Honda and Nissan have back-speced their LV fluids, but oddly enough, Toyota hasn’t back-speced WS and Mercedes hasn’t said ATF134FE can be used in older applications.

The viscosity is not as important as the quality of base oil and the add-pack. The LV / ULV viscosities will buy you a few % of fuel economy but I'd rather have the extra temperature protection of the typical higher viscosity Dex6/MercV.

I would be happy to use this ATF or Valvoline Maxlife but would rather just use the top-line Valvoline Restore and Protect ATF unless the price is way out of line.

Walmart has it for $25/gallon. I don’t see Valvoline Restore and Protect ATF. Not a bad price, Castrol claims outstanding copper protection for hybrids and EVs that use ATF for cooling(Tesla, until recently). My use cases are Toyota hybrids and an older ATF T-IV application. Maybe a newer Tundra using ATF WS.

Someone used thicker 5.9 maxlife in a ulv transmission where the mercedes 9 speed uses stuff that's only 4.1 cst and never had an issue. I don't see how a 7 cst fluid will cause issues in LV applications that use 5.5-6.5 cst. It's more so in the additive pack.

And WM will deliver it from store in most places ;)

I've used it in a '15 Forester TR580 with good results. I've used VaMLife in WS applications (lots of them) and don't see why the Trnsmx Universal would be any different (for WS stuff)
