Driving details:
Always let the car warm-up: ~3k RPM shifts when the she's cold and ~4k RPM shifts when she's warm.
Then there's the occasional spirited driving and hard accelerations.
Car averages two 7-mile city trips on weekdays and highway trips on weekends.

Auto-Xed the car once... only got 3 runs in

Personal Comments:
Copper down: no track events.
Silicon up: nearing my 30K mark so the air filter will be changed soon.

Previous UOAs:

AIR FILTER: Subaru OEM - 16546AA020

EQUIPMENT MAKE: Subaru OIL USE INTERVAL: 4,000 Miles

EQUIPMENT MODEL: 2.0L Turbo OIL TYPE & GRADE: Castrol Syntec GREEN 0W/30 (Gas)

FUEL TYPE: Gasoline (Unleaded) MAKE-UP OIL ADDED: 0.75 qts

0.5 to 1.5 quarts of added oil during a ~4000-mile oil change will affect wear metals a little

but not much. The wear metals in this latest oil sample from your Subaru looked pretty good and we

are encouraged in the decline in copper. All of the other wear metals read very close to the universal

averages, which are based on 4,750 miles of oil use for this type of engine. The TBN was 5.9, plenty

of active additive left in the oil if you ever wanted to extend your oil use. No contaminants were found

and the oil's viscosity was normal. Looks good at 27,000 miles!

Universal averages - I still havent figured out how they calculate it. Is it per make/model? that too in their database? For ex: lead - 5 ppm who says this should be 5 and not say 2 ?

Nice!

As to universal averages, a lot of people here don't even go by them. I'm don't know how they are broken down between Subaru's. Some UOA's on Subaru turbo's do not list it as a turbo. Even if it does, do the averages include all 2.5L turbo's, all naturally aspirated 2.5L's, etc.???

Are all STI's, Leg GT's, Outback XT's, 2.5 WRX's and Forester XT's averaged together? So many questions, maybe I should ask Blackstone.

How long have you been using synthetic??? there has been alot of debate on when to switch to syn. in the boosted subbie engines. I switched at 1k to Syntec 5-40 but still waiting to have a UOA done.

I switched when the car had 11k. So I've been using synthetic for ~18k now.

From the small group of Suby owners I know, nobody has problems from using synthetic oil "too early".

I switched to synthetic in my WRX at around 1000 miles and never had a problem during the 5 years that I owned it. No oil consumption and excellent UOAs.

A typical energy conserving 30 weight will probably become a 20 weight from the wear-in metals. 5W40 is probably good during break-in, but there was a UOA on Syntec 10W40 posted on nasioc and it had sheared to a 30 weight. I guess that's better than a 20 weight in a hard driven turbo!
