do I need to change the oil filter when I remove the syntec?

or can i just take it off and dump it out?

only been on for about 3 days

thanks

I've used that oil in my pre-bitog days (been browsing the forum for a while), and it seemed to perform well, although compared to a conventional 10w40 or 20w-50. Supposedly a Group III base with a dash of Grp V. Anyway, since it's already in your car, I wouldn't waste it. It won't hurt anything, especially during the warmer months. If you want to thin it out you can replace the oil filter and add just under 1qt/ltr of 0w-20 or 5w-20, but that's probably not necessary.

If you must drain it, there's no need to replace the filter.

My engine after 122k miles. For the last 100k miles Syntec 5W-50 was used:

Go ahead, dump that garbage oil after 3 days, because otherwise it'll shear and sludge up and wear out your engine, just like it ruined mine!

may I ask why you have it opened up like that?

I've heard on an interepid board that my 2.7L engine is very tempermental...

that's why I'm so worried about the 5w50

I opened it up, because the right valve cover gasket was leaking and had to be replaced.

I used 5W-50 in temps from sub-freezing to over 100F without any issues for about 6 years in my 2.8 liter V6.

okay... well... I might be stupid... but at this point I dont' really care... cause I'd rather not chance my ****** engine blowing on me for $30 worth of oil

and just incase anyone was wondering... that valve noise I had before... GONE with the mobil 1 ...

all I did was empty out the 5w50... empty the filter... reseat the same filter... and giver the 5w30 Mobil 1

runs like a new car now... and I couldn't be happier.

things I did notice were that the 5w50 did seem to drain quite slow from the engine... thick as honey really... and that it seemed a lot more tacky than the Mobil 1... given the engine flush though... it was pretty **** clean

thanks again for everyone's input... hopefully someone can draw useful information from this post another time as well

cheers

Mark
