ARCOgraphite,

That's what my local GM dealership uses so what else can I say???
In reality it's a Cadillac dealership so I guess useing the standard Mobil 1 oil is too expensive as others may have said. Regardless I intende to switch to Castrol "Syntec" as soon as my OLM tell me to do so. How it compares to M1 I can't say but I had thought the back of the label say it does meet the GM 4718 requirments.

I just got a used car, the previous owner changed the oil every 4,000 kms with Castrol Syntec 10w-30 religously (very short intervals). I opened the valvecover to do a valve adjustment and I was surprised how dirty the valvecover was with dark brown stains and varnish like deposits. I had to scrub it clean with a solvent and lots of soapy water to get it back to it's natural silver colour. I was very surprised that the engine wasn't cleaner than it was. I know this is a very anectdotal reference, perhaps there were other issues at work but the engine runs very strong and smooth with 55,000 miles. I won't continue running the Syntech product.

Again, The last batch of syntec 5w-30 I had in my hand did NOT meet the 4718M requirement, and this was just a few weeks ago. check again. You want 4781M on this engine. Just because the dealer uses it doesnt mean its correct for your application. Castrol EDGE does meet the 4718M corvette spec.

I agree, before I got rid of it I ran it in my old 350Z for 7500 hard miles and wear was great, TBN was 3.97. Easily equal to PP IMO.

that syntec oil doesnt meet the required GM4718 spec. Wrong oil. Warranty?!

Are you sure GM requires GM4718 on the LS4? I thought the only required spec was 6094M.

Its a great oil

Its always run smoothly in everything I've put it in. I would agree though, that its not a lengthy drain oil.

8K/ 6 months would probably be okay.

I am unsure on the LS4. I would sleep easier if it had the 4718m - it appears all other majors cover it with their fauxsyns. Why would a dealer use a synthetic that doesnt meet GM HP V8 specs in the first place? Maybe to offer a middle-line syn oil-change deal?
