Anyone have knowledge of Castrol SFX oil filters? I ran across them @ a website I stumbled upon while searching for oil filters and found them at Filters and wipers page. Any and all opinions are appreciated. I was looking for the M1 extended performance oil filters when I came across the Castrol.

Linked thread information says Champ made. Based alone on what I can see I'm a tad skeptical of the comparison to the M1. Only way to tell would be to cut one open, and look for M1 similarities like thread end bypass in the majority. It does appear to show a silicone adbv which would be an upgrade from lowest tier STP. If it is really an M1 equivalent not a bad price, but I've not checked the shipping charge.

Interesting, I like the green paint. Somebody needs to buy and cut one!

Sayjac, Thanks for the link to the other post. If it is comparable to the M1, it would't be bad. Then again, the price for the M1 on that site is mighty darn good. I checked to see the shipping charge on 4 x M1's and it came to $5.99 for me, not bad at all.

99.9% at 25 microns using Castrol's CAS8A filter and ISO 4548-12 multi-pass test procedure

So says the ad..better then WIX or NG?

95% @ 20 microns on the WIX/NAPA Golds.

On the linked website in Post #1, the SFX filter is only 80 cents cheaper than the Mobil 1 Extended filter, so the SFX is most likely an M1 with a Castrol paint job from what I see and the specs shown.

I'd consider that an improvement!

Should be a decent filter to go the 10k OCI if it's comparable to the M1 EP filters (as claimed on that website).

JDW, are you purchasing from that website? If yes, please let us know your experience with that retailer and can't wait to see your report. Thank you in advance!

You're welcome. As said though only way to tell with any real degree of certainty if they are analogous to M1 is to cut one open for autopsy. SFX description and promo yt in link 'seem' to make it look that way, but the latter are not generally noted for their accuracy. JD's purchase should provide more information. ~$6 looks to be standard shipping cost up $75 purchase, 10 filters, beyond that free. But hey, they will throw in a free pair of disposable nitrile gloves. Wonder if that's one for each filter.

Beyond that it has a different different color, which means next to nothing for me as it's unseen after installation, in my applications at least. Based on a search SFX looks to have very limited availability.

Perhaps at some point before you install, you can take a close up pic or two of the base/outlet/centertube area with the cello removed. Might get a better indication of the bypass type.

Thanks for quick reply.

Looks like this one is using Champ's interior metal coil spring dome bypass.

One more question, what is the application number. Just trying to compare it to the equivalent M1.

Agree it does look like a solid well made piece.
