Castrol magnatec line.

Hi all.

So..the Castrol magnatec line. Are they good or bad oils? Are there any consensus on Bitog? And if so, what is it? Are there any UOA that show good or bad results?

I understand that the magnatec line is still pretty new in the US. I believe we had it for at least 5 years here. But UOA is not common in Denmark. And many people here just love Castrol, without the arguments to say why. Castrol has a lot of fans here, but so do Justin Bieber and McDonald's. So that ain't a quality stamp in my book.

More specific...it is the magnatec 0w-20 that I am looking at. But I don,t think a lot of you guys in the US use it. So I am asking about the entire magnatec line.

Castrol Magnatec is a well respected oil, I'm using it right now. It comes in various weights, some full synthetic and some semi-synthetic.

The 0w20 version is hard to find here and more expensive since it's not sold at Walmart. I'm pretty sure Walmart carried it at first but now they have only 5w20, 5w30 and possibly 10w30. I'm sure it's excellent but I can get other 0w20 syns cheaper.

Ow20 and 10w30 here are always at a premium
Often you can sub out the 0w for 5w20- not a big deal.
But Amazon often will price it all under $18 but you have to jump on it when they do.
That was my beef of the 0w20 and 10w30- its up often at $8 more a 5 qt jug.

What percent of the Magnatec line is synthetic?

All I have seen on the shelves is 5W-20 and 5w30. 5W-20 is full synthetic, and the 5w30 is a blend. Don't know how much synthetic is in the blend, but both are Dexos certified. I have no need for the 5W-20, but I would use the 5w30. Just not going to buy it when a blend is the same price as the full synthetic.

Doubt you will go wrong using the Magnatec line. My experience with Castrol tells me they produce a solid oil. In fact, I am running 11 year old GC from my huge stash acquired when GC was the talk of the board in my 2008 Infiniti FX 35 in heat and cold and it performs flawlessly.

I'm thinking the 5w30 is at least 50% synthetic....

I used five quarts of 5w30 SS on my last change and used two quarts of 5w20 FS
mixed in. Worked well for my truck. ( 7 qt capacity)

At the current Walmart price of under $18 for the 5 qt jug...Magnatec is a steal. I've always considered Castrol to be a very good oil brand but not the best 'cold weather' oil (seems to be on the thicker side of their respective grades).

I picked up a lot of the older (but still SN rated) Synblend 5w20 when it was on 'CLEARANCE' at AZ...how does this compare to the newer Magnatec? If the newer Magnatec can do a 10K OCI do you feel the Synblend can do maybe 7.5K?
